Calling All Perl Monks edit

If there are any Perl Monks out there who come across this wiki, I think it would be neat to add some personality to this by adding some input (CloneArmyCommander 23:42, 13 November 2005 (UTC)) (Still just a Friar ;))Reply

An article about Perl Monks isn't complete without mention of Wassercrats.

I just noticed that "famous monks" was deleted a while back. I'm not sure about the word "famous" but I think Merlyn and TimToady (and Wassercrats) are...notable or something enough to mention, along with what they're noted for. But I'll leave it for someone else to decide.

[jdporter] here. I have two things to say:

1. Please PLEASE do not add anything about Wassercrats. He does not deserve mention. There's too much good in the world to be propagating crap.

2. The canonical name of the site is PerlMonks, not Perl Monks. Maybe someone should have discussed this on perlmonks before blazing forth.

Wikipedia doesn't work that way. If I'm crap, then you can try adding that to the article if I'm mentioned, but I don't think you'll be successful. -Barry- 22:13, 15 June 2006 (UTC) (AKA Wassercrats)Reply

So Barry is Wassercrats? So above you're the one saying, "An article about Perl Monks isn't complete without mention of Wassercrats"? LOL, how modest.

I know how it works, thank you very much. It doesn't hurt to ask people to steer a certain way. Whether they do or not is up to them. [jdporter]

It does hurt when you're rude about it and try to cover up relevant information that belongs in an article. If this article was more popular, I'd add information about all of the monks who left Perlmonks because of the behavior of people like you, but it's not worth my time right now.
By the way, in Wikipedia, you can indent by adding colons before each line. -Barry- 15:10, 16 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
Don't be a jerk Barry, you came to the site, and bullied people. --65.241.51.2 23:09, 10 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

There are tons of things that have happened on PerlMonks such as the alleged plagiarism incident and Wassercrats (if you go back far enough) that -- while notable to monks at the time -- are arguably not notable enough for this Wikipedia article. What would be more useful for the article is a list of well known names in the Perl community that post on the site, such as Larry Wall (still posts occasionally) and Randal Schwartz (still fairly active though not as much as he used to be). Great but Slow edit

It's a great site, and I find it very helpful, but way too slow. I know they probably don't make money and therefore can't afford large bandwidth, but it's often unusable it's so slow. --DJBryson 13:38, 16 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Requested move edit

Perl MonksPerlMonks — The site name is one word not two. LA (T) @ 17:09, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Removed template -- there's no controversy so I just went ahead and moved it. Argel1200 (talk) 19:47, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

If notable users are listed... edit

If you plan on listing notable users, use their real names not their user names (though the user names can be noted). Also, tell the reader why the user is notable. Some of them might even have articles about them here, if they are authors of books on the subject of Perl. LA (T) @ 14:26, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

history of the name edit

Was the name "Monks" inspired by "Scary Devil Monastery" (anagram of alt.sysadmin.recovery)? —Tamfang (talk) 23:51, 1 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
