Alternate Periodization

Thanks, Whatever2009, for contributing to the article - you provided useful and relevant material concerning the alternate periodization. I just wanted to comment here, though, that we endeavor to maintain a strict rule of including the entire name of the culture in each instance where it is used in the narrative of the articles, so that is why I changed your text from "Trypillian Culture" to Cucuteni-Trypillian Culture". This is the result of a compromise that was arranged before I began to edit the Cucuteni-Trypillian articles, however it is a compromise that I feel is entirely within the spirit of Wikipedian non-partisan, inclusiveness. I just wanted to spell it out here why I made that change, and thanks again for your helpful contribution to the article. --Saukkomies ^talk 23:10, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

There could be an issue. I totally agree with the change in the Cucuteni-Trypillian from Trypillian Culture. Still the research of Cucuteni and Trypillian culture was separated 100 years, or more, due to the political boundaries, so it is very possible that some findings theories, regarding Trypillian culture to refer to the artifacts findings in Ukraine, and the same is for romanian research. Some conclusion regarding the beginning of the Cucuteni may not be true for Ukraine findings, and some conclusion regarding the decline shoul not be present in romanian findings. (the beginning of the culture start somewhere in present day Romania, and the ending is mostly within present day Ukraine). So any periodization should be treated cautiously.CristianChirita (talk) 07:42, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for elaborating on this, Cristian. Indeed, I agree with what you say. The way I understand how this works is that when a quoted source specifies Cucuteni, Trypillian, or Trypolie culture, to go ahead and include the wording exactly as given in the quote. However, when we editors are creating text in Wikipedia, we need to maintain the discipline of providing the full name of Cucuteni-Trypillian culture. I have also edited all examples of this in other Wikipedia articles that have only one of the names in the text. We're in agreement on this, and so there should be no problem. --Saukkomies ^talk 11:54, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
