- Riché, Les Carolingiens, pp.29–30, thinks Pippin was rusticating, or keeping out of King Dagobert's way, in the period 629–639. When the copy of the Dictonary of the Franks arrives, I'll double-check that. Bouvier-Ajam's Dagobert says much the same: retired to his estates. Angus McLellan (Talk) 11:34, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

This is going back to 561.He first appeared in 622 prior to this there is no recorded history of this person. In relation to the supposed father Carloman he was not in any form a Mayor of the Palace. There was a Carloman he was the brother of Karl de Gross (Charlemagne) this was sometime in the mid 700's.
- Carloman should be doubted or rejected as the name of Pippin's father was put forward by Karl August Eckhardt in 1965, repeated and amplified by him in 1975. His argument was basically from onomastics turned upside down and inside out - he arbitrarily considered that the name Carloman was a fiction invented in order to provide a namesake ancestor for a few
- of his descendants. Why this could not have been his real name transmitted to the same descendants was not explained.

- @Pipera: it could take a long time before anyone fixes these things. One of the biggest problems with our articles for people in this period is the lack of people working on them in a thorough way.
