Gallery edit

I added the gallery and also added a photo I took of a potted Peperomia I have at home, but unfortunately I don't know the scientific name for it. I've tried finding it on the Internet, but haven't found a good photo match. Please add it, if you can... Nathan Beach 22:48, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

This article contains 50 images. Interesting though they are, Wikipedia is not a repository of multiple images (that’s what Wikimedia is for). I would propose to keep a maximum of six images in the gallery, which display significant (different) aspects of the genus, and preferably illustrate the text. Also to make the species list a collapsible list. Cheers. Darorcilmir (talk) 09:21, 23 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

I cleaned up the article in general and also the gallery as suggested above. Has now less images but tries to cover the basic types. Couldn't find any examples right now for the geophytic Peperomias. Perhaps someone else could find those. And feel free to change to better examples if you think that is needed. --Gemena (talk) 15:57, 28 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Why did the Species list get cut? edit

I added a Species subsection with a small list of species and a {{main}} link to the article that has a list of all species.

The species in this list were carefully selected using OneZoom's popularity index API. It was a list of the most popular species. I understand that the main list has ALL the species but the point of this little preview was to give examples of species that the reader might recognize...

Can I bring it back if I add the common names for these species? Tr3ndyBEAR (talk) 19:53, 29 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello! First of all, I thought adding the Species subsection was generally a good idea. I moved it higher to what I thought was a more suitable place.
I just thought the list didn't add much because there are already so many listings of species: Examples listed in Description, examples listed in Distribution, and especially the Horticulture section already lists species common i.e. popular as houseplants. Those are exactly "examples of species that the reader might recognize", as you put it. So in my opinion the page really doesn't need another separate list. That was my reasoning behind rephrasing the Species section more as a general description.
But I'm not generally policing the page. I'm a rather sporadic editor anyway. If you decide to put the list in again, at least I won't be removing it.
However, I would recommend thinking about whether it makes sense basing your list on this particular service. In my opinion their "popularity" score does not offer any meaningful information to the general reader.
