Contrast
editSo I've noticed some back-and-forth regarding the colors in the results chart and while I understand WP:CONTRAST, it would seem the current setup with shades of blue for both teams doesn't really follow that. Yes, they make the info on the chart legible, but but the point of the colors is also to give a visual aspect to the series; making it easier to see trends and streaks. Wouldn't the WVU shade of gold work better here to contrast with the Penn State blue? As it stands now, there's very little difference between the shades of blue and both use white text, so it defeats the purpose of even having colors in the chart. In looking at the Color Contrast tool, using the official WVU colors seems to be OK in terms of contrast for reading the information in addition to contrast from the Penn State colors. --JonRidinger (talk) 04:41, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- @JonRidinger: The problem with having the gold background is that it is hard to read it with the blue font or with the white font. Below is what they would look like:
Penn State victories West Virginia victories Tie games No. Date Location Winner Score 1 1984 Morgantown, WV West Virginia 17–14
Penn State victories West Virginia victories Tie games No. Date Location Winner Score 1 1988 Morgantown, WV West Virginia 51–30 Series: West Virginia leads 1–0
- The table could look like this:
Penn State victories West Virginia victories Tie games No. Date Location Winner Score 1 1988 Morgantown, WV West Virginia 51–30 2 1989 State College, PA Penn State 19–9 Series: Tied 1–1
- The gold border makes it stand out, while keeping it legible. The only problem is, most rivalry articles don't use the border. Corkythehornetfan 20:30, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Corkythehornetfan:, I think the gold border is a good option. Just because it isn't used in other articles doesn't mean it's not allowed. In this case, both using very similar shades of blue with white writing undermines the whole point of WP:CONTRAST, in my opinion, since it makes it very difficult to differentiate between the two colors. That said, I don't think it's that difficult to read the blue-on-gold writing and it does pass the contrast test, at least as far as the tool says. I wouldn't use white-on-gold. But if you and others feel that the gold background with blue text is too difficult to read, the gold border, to me, seems like a decent alternative. Anything to distinctly differentiate between the shades of blue. --JonRidinger (talk) 20:42, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
- I'm going to put the border in place, and if others disagree with it, then they can talk about it here and discuss it further. Corkythehornetfan 21:03, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
