I think I found the answer. The lava is very thick and sticky, so any lava is blasted out as bombs or cinders. --The High Fin Sperm Whale (talk) 18:19, 19 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Not if it is a true Peléan eruption as all the magma is blasted to small fragments. Pyroclastic flows are a feature of this style of eruption and the cloud over the flow was named Nuee ardente by Alfred Lacroix when he witnessed eruptions of Mount Pelée in 1902.--The Geologist (talk) 12:43, 24 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
