Talk:Pedro del Valle/Archive 1

I removed the following External link, as it no longer points to a valid page.

Is there another primary source with the same material? —ERcheck (talk) @ 22:08, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

GA Nomination encouraged

Dear Friends: This article on a fine officer is near to GA status. Please add inline references and nominate it. --CTSWyneken(talk) 18:35, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

That's a great start. There are now fact tags up that need addressing. I've never seen the "inote" style before. To me, the FA article looks unreferenced. Can you tell me how it works? --CTSWyneken(talk) 10:59, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Thank you Bob, I added some more inote references to cover the "tags". A couple of years ago when I wrote the FA article, the inote reference was the system that was used. The reference was to be visible only to editors since it was assumed that that all the references were listed in the reference section. Things may have changed therefore, I invite and welcome anyone who's familiar with the new reference system, to convert my "inotes" into what maybe now commonly used. I'll fix them. I probably shouldn't review it anyway, since I encouraged the listing. --CTSWyneken(talk) 13:06, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
I hope you all don't mind if I do some work in making the references more formal. I figured since I'm not going to review the article, I might as well edit it. The citation thing is a part of what I do on my day job, so please forgive my librarianess. Bob --CTSWyneken(talk) 13:22, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Later Years

We need to find better references for this section. The only way to get to it is through the google archive. If time permits, I'll do a bit of casting about myself. --CTSWyneken(talk) 13:52, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

I'll take a look at this one, but would be more comfortable if we had an academic source. --CTSWyneken(talk) 20:48, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Minor POV concerns

This article is well-written and well-sourced, but there are two minor POV concerns I have. One is the use of the word "massacre" in the "World War II" section. That word carries heavy emotional connotations, and if a different description could be found that was just as informative, it would be better to use it instead. I'm not sure what way to put it that would be accurate, though. Assault? Defense? Battle?

The other problem is the issue of anti-Semitism. Obviously, this is a subject that leads to lots of problems at Wikipedia. It's important to include the information, but we need to be doubly-careful to source all information in the "Later years" section. For instance, a tightening of source 9 would be nice (What page or passage?). And every subsequent sentence in that paragraph could use an explicit source. – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 15:03, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

More: the article mentions that del Valle's organizations and associations were criticised as anti-Semite, but it never says he himself was. But he certainly was, and the article should say that. For instance, following the link for footnote 9, I see than ITT's Washington representative labeled him anti-Semitic. He wrote a letter of support to Conde McGinley, and he described the Truman administration as "completely in the power of the Zionist-Marxist minority".

He was also criticised not just for anti-Semitism, but also for his other far-Right views. For instance, he said:

Treason is everywhere about us and I do not believe that we have any chance unless some strong military person is able to seize power by means of a "coup d'etat" and take the Communist bull by the horns right at home.

He also was close to Junio Valerio Borghese, an Italian-fascist war-criminal, and was friends with (and gave money to) George Lincoln Rockwell, head of the American Nazi Party.

Perhaps this should be included in a "Controversial beliefs" section? The article certainly isn't complete without this information. – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 15:16, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

  • I hope that I have taken care of the situation. Tony the Marine 15:35, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

I just wanted to touch the basics because you know how it is, people may let their passions get the better part of them and start to attack the intergerity of the article. I have seen many good articles that have been affected with continuous copyediting and reverts. Tony the Marine

By the way, I have passed the article as a Good Article. – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 15:58, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
