Birthdate? edit

About half the sources online list his birthdate as June 22, 1930, and half say June 22, 1931.

Quoting (almost) the Gershwin brothers, "De things dat yo' liable to read when yo' Google, / It ain't necessarily so". Few people alive today can remember what it was like when the Internet first was created. One of the most striking things everyone noticed in those days was how quickly mistakes proliferated. As soon as a misstatement was made on one site, a hundred copies sprang up everywhere. Unfortunately, this situation has only gotten worse in the meantime. This is why a statistical count of Google hits means nothing when it comes to finding reliable sources. The New Grove may not be 100% reliable, but it has a much better record that the Internet. It says 1930. The New York Times probably ranks somewhat lower in reliability, but Jacobs' obituary on 26 September 1983 says "He was 53 years old", which confirms 1930. I think letters to the editors of those other websites on the Internet may be in order.—Jerome Kohl (talk) 03:48, 15 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Gramophone links dead edit

Gramophone withdrew its free searchable review archive several years ago after persistent hacking attacks. It now charges to view images of the magazine. Hence, all Gramophone links cited here are dead, and should be removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.178.16.31 (talk) 21:06, 15 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
