25-27 October - Upon initiative of Metropolitan FILARET, Hierarchical Sobor of Russian Church grants independence in administrative matters to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in Ukraine; Vladyka FILARET is unanimously elected by the hierarchs in Ukraine to be Archpastor of the UOC with the title “Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine”

1-3 November - Sobor of the UOC in Kyiv, headed by Met. FILARET, acting upon the proclamation of independence of Ukraine (August 24), sends petition requesting autocephaly (total independence) for the UOC

1-2 April - Hierarchical Sobor of Russian Church refuses request for autocephaly of the UOC headed by Met. FILARET

27 May - Kharkiv “Sobor”, called by Moscow Patriarchate, in violation of Church canons, the Statute of the UOC, and decisions of the Hierarchical Sobor of the ROC regarding the independence of the UOC in administrative matters, elected a hierarch of the Russian Church to be Archpastor of Ukrainian Orthodox Church

25-26 June - All-Ukrainian Orthodox Sobor in Kyiv united UOC headed by Metropolitan FILARET and UAOC headed by Patriarch MSTYSLAV into one Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP); elected by this Sobor to be Vicar of the Patriarch
