Pasteles in Hawaii edit

I believe that it should be noted that pasteles made in Hawaii are made similarly to the ones made in Puerto Rico. There is no description as to how the pasteles in Hawaii are made. I also believe that pasteles are still spelled pasteles in Hawaii, it is just the pronunciation of it that is different. --Reuben2011 (talk) 03:15, 25 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

It's spelled differently and recipe book, written by Puerto Ricans of Hawaii for their centennial celebration (of when migrations to Hawaii began), says they used different ingredients to make 'em. They had to improvise. And if you want to know the book I'm talking about-I'm looking for it right now.--The Eloquent Peasant (talk) 13:19, 18 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Mamie edit

"The correct name for a Puerto Rican Pastel is Mamie." Honestly, it's a bit condescending to say "correct". I've never heard of it, and the reference linked doesn't support the "Mamie" naming. Perhaps "another traditional name for a Puerto Rican Pastel is Mamie" but I can't even find another reference to that name. 2600:8804:660B:C400:8C73:DA52:ECBC:5030 (talk) 23:23, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Mexico edit

In Mexico a pastel is a cake as in a decorated birthday cake wedding cake complete with icing etc. Peter Horn.2 (talk) 01:30, 9 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

In Panama, pastel is also a cake. This kind of dumpling would get called a tamal in Panama — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikipanda99 (talkcontribs) 22:19, 7 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

It can use some disambiguation. But I don't think throwing "cake" into the article is the right move.

History edit

This article is about a primarily Caribbean dish. What is described under the history section has little relevance as Argentina is a distinct cultural area in Latin America and in an entirely different region. Moreover, the dish described therein sharing the same name has little relation to the dish. This should be revised and amended or removed since it is unrelated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:9000:8B0C:A8D6:19DC:2C2:3317:74C8 (talk) 16:10, 13 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Introduction edit

It would be good to actually describe this food item as the very first thing rather than talk about the geography of the dish. I've read the intro and the first variation info and I still don't know just what this thing is. I'm in Puerto Rico and am trying to understand items on menus without having to order them.
