Talk:Parkside railway station (Derbyshire)

Where is it?

edit

Was trying to find a set of co-ordinates but there's no Park Side station mentioned at Peak Rail and there's no station shown on the OS maps between Rowsley South railway station and either terminus. Dave.Dunford (talk) 15:26, 29 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Linking Problem

edit

There is also a 'Parkside' on the Liverpool - Manchester (via Earlestown) route just east of Newton-le-Willows station. Nowadays it is purely a set of rail junctions to/from the WCML but when the original Liverpool to Manchester line first opened in the 1800's was a site of two stations. However there are currently no WIki pages about this northwestern Parkside. Unfortunately editors of the Liverpool - Manchester pages have erroneously wikilinked that Parkside to this page, thus causing some confusion. Maybe editors on this page might consider re-titling it as 'Parkside (Derbyshire) railway station' as one way to avoid such confusion arising in the future? Many thanks Paul Gaskell (talk) 01:42, 26 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Paul Gaskell: I don't think it's the case that "editors of the Liverpool - Manchester pages have erroneously wikilinked that Parkside to this page". This page (i.e. Parkside railway station) has only borne that name for ten months. When it was created on 21 July 2009‎, it was named "Park Side"; within minutes, it was moved to Park Side railway station, and much later to Parkside railway station. This second move occurred on 26 June 2013‎: by that time, valid links to the erstwhile Liverpool & Manchester Railway (L&MR) station had already been added to other articles - e.g. in this edit of 30 December 2010. When I made that edit, I was fully aware that I was adding a redlink to the article; and this was permitted under WP:REDDEAL (first bullet).
Assuming that an article for the ex-L&MR station does get created, we have three courses of action:
  1. leave the DDNGR station alone, use a disambiguated name for the L&MR station
  2. move the DDNGR station elsewhere (either back to its previous name, or to a disambiguated name) allowing the L&MR station to use the undisambiguated name
  3. move the DDNGR station elsewhere, as with (2) and use a disambiguated name for the L&MR station, as with (1), also make Parkside railway station into a disambiguation page.
I feel that an article for the ex-L&MR station should be created - apart from the common practice of creating articles for all GB railway stations, it was the scene of the accident where William Huskisson was mortally injured. --Redrose64 (talk) 07:57, 26 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
@Paul Gaskell: I see that you are delinking Parkside railway station from various articles. Please would you make a list of all the places where you have done that, so that when the article for the ex-L&MR station gets created we can re-add links pointing to that station. --Redrose64 (talk) 07:56, 27 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Totally agree that an article (even a 'holding' one) on the L&MR Parkside should be created and probably best under the name 'Parkside' as this is how it's been known in effect since the creation of the original Liverpool - Manchester line and therefore has greater provenance. Although today it is only effectively a set of junctions (with the Huskisson monument in between !) in its earliest days there were not one, but two stations (see Disused Stations website). Having looked at the DDNG section of the Peak Rail website it is apparent that this 'Parkside' station is situated at Rowsley South station and has been 'devised' (it is even put in quotation marks) to meet the needs of a station platform for the newer DDNG. I think in order to avoid further confusion perhaps the Derbyshire station should be re-titled 'Parkside (DDNG) Station (or similar), along the lines of the way St. Helens Central Station and St. Helens (GCR) Central Station wiki pages are designated. Delinking of Parkside - yes, should've started a list - will do. Paul Gaskell (talk) 21:05, 27 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
