Substantial Revisions of the Parklet definition

edit

The staff of the San Francisco City Design Team, which established San Francisco's Parklets Program initially, made a major edit to the definition of a Parklet and posted it on the Parklet page this morning.

We are sorry that we did not discuss these changes with those who are monitoring and contributing the the page, and apologize if we've stepped on anyone's toes. That was not our intention, of course. We are aware there are other Parklet advocates who care deeply about Parklets and this page, for which we are delighted.

We would like to continue making substantial additional edits by including more links to pics and references and the work of the various groups who are now taking on the Parklets idea and making it their own. Please let us know if you have concerns or interests, or would like to discuss the changes and revisions we envision. CityScribe (talk) 17:01, 27 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Etymology ?

edit

Besides being a novel idea, as a word 'parklet' is clearly a neologism. I'm wondering therefore what are its origins? If it simply means "small park" wouldn't it more properly be called "parklette" as seems to be happening in New York and LA? (see here and here)? Or since it is so small, perhaps the name combines 'park' and 'chicklet', the iconic little piece of chewing gum? Any thoughts, answers? Verne Equinox (talk) 16:34, 15 March 2013 (UTC) It could be the fusion of the word "aparkment", "park" and "pallet", since those equipments often used pallet in early stages to create green area in parking lots. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.153.101.37 (talk) 09:13, 4 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
