Anyone have any clues on exactly how scripted this is?

Anyone have a friend who's friend's brother's girlfriend's brother who was in the sudio when they were filming a show?

scripted?

edit

oh yeah: THE BAD "ACTING",the lame come backs of the parents(lame for that reason),horrible reactions, the excessive name calling(which would normally start a fight) -- oh yeah its fake, no doubt. They need to add a section saying so. Go ahead make one Im down - thats the reason i even looked up the show: to see if it was real.

Like so much current TV, each programme is made to an an extremely tight and highly-predictable formula, with just the "stars" changing for each episode. However, remarks made by parents and children seem suspiciously similar from programme to programme. This could be due to the limited vocabulary of the average American, but I suspect it's all set-up and scripted. Does anyone know how much the participants are paid to submit themselves to what can be considerable humiliation, to be repeated endlessly on MTV? But I do like this programme :0) EdX20 21:03, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

The show IS scripted; my friend R.S., a former B-movie director who ocasionally rents out his home for movie and TV locations, had this show filming at his home on March 1, 2007. He confirmed that the show is scripted; in fact they went over the time limit stated in his contract because the "girlfriend" couldn't get her lines right. So, while they DO use real people, the show is scripted. Kaihoku 05:02, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I too was wonderin if this is fake. I seen an ep whereas the daughter chose some guy she just met over her current partner. It seems so rash and low if this is ever real. Seems a bit irrational for the parents to be cheering for their daughter in gettin some dude who she just met and the garbage her previous bf dumped over the new guy seems to be actual garbage since it was nothing but clean wrinkled paper. Lastly, how do the parents know the new guy isn't as much of a creep as her previous partner?--Doomzaber 04:42, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Though the program may be scripted, I don't think its appropriate to say "The show is obviously scripted", as it once did. This is attacking the show rather than presenting the proven facts. The evidence you guys are providing is anecdotal and insufficient IMO. I edited this page to its current form, but I forgot to log in. There's a video on the Parental Control website right now that pretty much proves how scripted at least one episode was. The mother and girlfriend had a confrontation where the mother said that the previous scene was not supposed to happen the way it did. I can only assume that all episodes are just as scripted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.170.101.237 (talk) 18:01, 22 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Scripted Or Not

edit

Unless you can find a credible source (blogs do not count), please don't include speculation. I've watched the show and it does seem scripted, but if it is, it definitely isn't rehearsed well. Find a reference before adding it or it'll keep getting removed. --68.77.147.111 (talk) 20:29, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

That's dumb. It's obviously scripted. It's not kept secret. We can just say it's scripted. It doesn't need a citation in the same way the WWF article doesn't need one. Punk. 71.68.15.63 (talk) 16:35, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
It does need a citation. Please see Wikipedia's policy on Verifiability: "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth..." It's been months now and sources have yet to be added. I did a quick Google search, but the results were limited to forums and the like. (See Reliable source.) I'm going to remove the section. Would this article be sufficient? http://www.daily49er.com/2.297/reality-tv-shows-not-really-founded-on-reality-1.91355 Reubot (talk) 10:39, 7 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Not for this article. This article is about one show, presented as reality television by MTV. Accusing a reality show of being scripted is like accusing the Pope of being Catholic. There's simply no need. A reader who wants to read about the scripted nature of reality shows can read the reality television article. Krychek (talk) 21:44, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

I don't see how it is, being that it's clearly someone's opinion rather than actual fact. I'm sure the show is scripted, like many others, but that post doesn't appear to be any more credible than a blog. The writer bases his entire conclusion off of what someone on the set personally told him. Eliwins (talk) 17:00, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Nearly all reality television is scripted to some degree. The only thing that matters here is that MTV presents it as reality television, so that is what we will call it. The article on reality television indicates that many of these shows are scripted, so there is no need to call it out here. It's basically part of the definition.
