Errors edit

I started copyediting this, but after looking at the sources used, found large swathes of material is uncited, more that does not appear in the sources it is apparently cited to, and material that has been WP:SYNTHed. For example the source for "The battle itself could be dated back to late January 2023" only states "[on 18 February] the Russian fascist invaders have captured the northern half of Paraskoviyivka." Other parts are plain wrong, such as the assessment of the Artemivsk fighting in 2014, some other errors seem to stem from unfamiliarity with languages and conventions - "it's name has highly been romanized in several different letters and pronunciations" misunderstands transliteration practices from various languages which use Cyrillic. The use of Urban-type settlement is an official designation related to administrative matters, some WP:OR has been used here, Ukraine designates the settlement as a 'село' (selo). Most of the detail of the latest fighting (as of February 2023) is not in the cited sources, and is internally inconsistent with regards to dating. It's not particularly helped by the fact that Prigozhin said Wagner had captured it on 17 February, and other sources announcing it was 'Russian forces' on 18 February. In several instances the writer of the article has said that claims were confirmed, when the 'confirmation' is another news outlet reporting on a press release or wire report. I've pruned the article back to what can be confirmed from the sources used, in future please keep strictly to sources. Spokoyni (talk) 11:32, 20 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

I think i´ll make revisions to the Battle of Paraskoviivka part between today and tomorrow. Thank you for the recent editing. I will try to improve on some of the mistakes. NYMan6 (talk) 00:20, 21 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
"village about 58 metres (0.036 mi) southwest of Paraskoviivka" 58 metres? is it correct? Smeagol 17 (talk) 20:29, 21 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that's meters but in British English as American English speakers would get confused with the "m" sometimes used for miles, etc. 2601:183:4081:FEA0:E960:BC9D:883F:74A5 (talk) 20:54, 21 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
I mean, is it really so close? Smeagol 17 (talk) 21:31, 21 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
They have a shared border we can make it (km from centre) but they are very close to each other NYMan6 (talk) 01:31, 23 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
If they have a shared border, would't it be 0 meters? Smeagol 17 (talk) 10:58, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, it’s weird. I think there’s some language oddities going on here, where some source that isn’t too familiar with the region is just blindly plugging in a number from a database to a relational descriptor (X km north of another village, etc) where it doesn’t make sense. IPA edit

What happened to the english IPA at the top of the page? Did it get messed up mid-entry or something? Half the vowels are apparently missing. HappyWith (talk) 16:38, 24 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

I think it was a mistake with the IPA we need definitely need to fix it NYMan6 (talk) 19:08, 25 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
I’ve commented out the IPA for now, since I had no idea what the original IPA was supposed to be. HappyWith (talk) 16:19, 26 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Split proposed edit

There is enough information in the section to merit it´s own article, any thoughts? NYMan6 (talk) 19:48, 26 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Which section? HappyWith (talk) 07:23, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Siege of Paraskoviivka NYMan6 (talk) 11:38, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

On first glance, I think it makes more sense as part of the Battle of Bakhmut page tbh. You kinda need the context of what happened before and after in the larger battle, and a lot of the detail on this page is just daily updates of casualties. HappyWith (talk) 14:28, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

I´d rather keep it in here then, as it inside the Battle of Bakhmut article would be too much, I´ll close the discussion until we can find more things about it. NYMan6 (talk) 19:04, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've changed my mind. The info about the battle near Paraskoviivka has grown to the extent that it definitely should be split off, since it takes up most of this article's length on its own. Does anyone object? HappyWith (talk) 22:21, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
@HappyWithWhatYouHaveToBeHappyWith I agree, I think we should just simplify the section of the battle into a few battle and the sources which have been used while the battle itself should just be split off onto a article of it's own. NYMan6 (talk) 23:10, 30 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'll perform the split now, this seems like effective consensus to me. HappyWith (talk) 20:48, 5 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Shouldn't Berkhivka be its own article? edit

As far as I can tell, Berkhivka is completely independent from Paraskoviivka, so I don't think it belongs as part of this article. Maybe we should split it off? Physeters 21:27, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

I put it in here as the village is of low importance and very small, with few civilians and literally borders Paraskoviivka but let´s do this discussion anyway. NYMan6 (talk) 13:51, 28 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
