Talk:Paper marbling

I'm having trouble editing the names for marbled paper in other languages. I looked at the abbreviations under the manual of style, but cannot find it. In addition, someone had posted the Turkish name as Geleneksel Türk Sanatında Ebru. This rather lengthy name translates as "The Traditional Turkish Art of Ebru", which is used today by the so-called "traditional" school to distinguish themselves from the so-called "modern school" in Turkey. There is no publication that will confirm what this, but you will find it implied (if you know Turkish) on some web sites. However most Turks refer to this paper generally as Ebru Kağıt, or "Ebru paper", without getting into certain highly evolved notions harbored by some as to what constitutes "traditional".

This topic is very detailed, and there is a lot more information to add, and some work must be done to clarify the definitions to be ore inclusive of all the different forms of marbling. In time, as I learn to better edit the article, I can post more references and citations. Please bear with me.

In addition, I noticed that someone changed the definition to state that marbling is done "very rarely" on fabric. That is not true at all, as there are artists who marble exclusively on fabric, many creating retail handcrafted garments. In addition, many manuals explain how this is done, right along with marbling paper, and at least two books have been devoted to this topic alone. Fabric is not only marbled in the US, but also Asia; particularly in Turkey, India and Japan. There has been a tradition of using suminagashi marbled silk for kimono and obi sashes for over 100 years. Jemiljan 01:19, 17 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

alba amicora - I'm pretty sure this should be "alba amicorum". In the phrase "album amicorum" (book of friends), amicorum is the genitive plural of the noun amicus, meaning "of friends" (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/amicus#Latin), and is not the nominative singular neuter of some as far as I know nonexistent adjective "amicorus/a/um" qualifying (and being in grammatical agreement with) "album". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.97.93.169 (talk) 22:19, 16 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
