Fixing and standardizing refs, which didn't use the templates and were in places confusing. They are nearly all from one book. I suppose that is OK? Also provided a commons cat section in case anyone wants to use pictures, and also gives the work a WD number.Botteville (talk) 15:49, 25 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

New referencing system

edit

I notice most of the references I changed did not use the templates. I suppose this was a set-up for the new referencing system, which wants us to abandon the cite templates. I didn't know a thing about it. However, I will say this. First, there is so much discussion on the new system I can't get a word in edgewise. Second, those discussers are wrong. There is too a way to give one reference but change the details. It is called harvnb. Third. Why would you want to abandon the cite templates? They help you to understand how the ref goes together. You have to know just as much not to use the template as to use it. The templates give you a standard to follow, otherwise you have to learn the standard on your own. As to whether you save space not using the templates, I don't think so. I saved a lot of space in this article putting them in. You have to know how to use them, but then, you would have to know how to reference in standard fashion in order not to use them. Well, the new feature is not out yet. Let's see how it goes. Right now it seems to me it is one way to screw the encyclopedia up one end to the other, but I'm not a programmer. If you are going to change my improvements, let us know, will you?
