Education

I want to know what she about her MAs. What is she studying?--DennisDaniels 04:13, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I just finished watching What I Want My Words To Do To You, a PBS Documentary on women in a maximum security prison. Pamela Smart was one of the women who participated. Should this be added to the main page? Either way, the DVD may be of interest to those who are curious about what Pamela Smart has to say.--pdigioia 00:08, 24 Jul 2006 (UTC)
I just added a note that Smart's two master's degrees were in law (which I interpreted to mean legal studies, since it is not a law degree per se) and literature. The source for this was the on-line version of the Portsmouth (New Hampshire) Herald of February 20, 2005. NelsonLB 19:11, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
In the HBO documentary Captivated: The Trials of Pamela Smart, another inmate says she helped Smart get two masters -- one in English Literature and one in Criminal Law. Rissa, copy editor (talk) 21:16, 28 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Some clarification on her name?

edit

She's credited as Pamela Smart, Pamela Ann Smart, Pamela Wojas, and Pamela Wojas-Smart. Does anyone know enough about her to be able to clear this up? When was she known as which name? When (if at all) was her named changed officially? What is she known as now? It seems a bit ridiculous to have her credited under so many different names with very little explanation for it. Copyvio

edit

I don't have time to sort this out right now, but a number of sections in the article are just cut and paste jobs from http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/notorious_murders/family/smart/1.html

Please don't cut and paste copyrighted works, just like it says at the bottom of every wikipedia page. 151.197.226.214 (talk) 00:35, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

The sections don't seem balanced

edit

There is a great deal of space devoted to Pamela Smart's prison lifestyle, including her depression and enjoyment of cooking, not to mention how many meals she eats a day, and in comparison relatively little info on the murder and trial itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by L.cash.m (talkcontribs) 02:28, 19 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think this is a mistake too, and that the entry should focus more on the trials. Rissa, copy editor (talk) 21:20, 28 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Billy Flynn's sex life

edit

"Flynn claims that he was a virgin before he had sex with Pamela Smart. In fact, Bill Flynn had a girlfriend at the same time he was in a relationship with Pamela Smart."

Okay...just because Bill had a girlfriend while he was dating Pamela Smart doesn't mean he didn't lose his virginity to PS. In fact, he may have never had sex with his girlfriend; it was high school, after all. If anyone can find definitive proof, please provide. —Preceding unsigned comment added by L.cash.m (talkcontribs) 02:34, 19 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Kerr

edit

The references for this article are in bad shape. All of the most important ones cite varies pages of "Kerr". That's it. Just "Kerr". No explanation whatsoever of what "Kerr" is. 64.124.27.3 (talk) 00:59, 20 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

This presumably refers to this. The website is defunct, but still exists in archive.org - I'll fix up the references in the article later today. Tarl N. (talk) 17:45, 5 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
References fixed. Does anyone know the correct way to cite the same source multiple times, using a different page number? I couldn't find an obvious way short of replicating the citation with a different page=xx argument. Tarl N. (talk) 23:00, 5 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Editing the first paragraph

edit

I thought the first paragraph both repeated and contradicted itself so I rewrote it, putting the fact that she was accused with her lover of the murder first. Then I added a sentence with the crimes for which she was convicted. I also added the name of the prison where she is serving her life sentence. Disputed POV

edit

Too little mention of Pamela Smart maintaining her innocence. Too many qualitative comments about third-party Flynn and propaganda around his character without facts and proper citations. The article could benefit from additional information from both sides of the coin. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DailySoup (talkcontribs) 22:17, 21 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I went through the article - there are a number of citation-needed flags throughout the article, but none of the statements so flagged seem to be particularly POV. They match my recollections of news reports at the time (I live in NH, so I was bombarded with a lot of the reporting). As for Smart maintaining her innocence, that's stated and it's generally presumed for any convict who didn't plead guilty. From a legal standpoint, the fact that she was convicted means that a jury didn't believe her protestations. I'm removing the POV flag. If you have specific references that you think belong here, bring them forward - I'd suggest discussing them on this talk page (please add sections at the bottom, not at the top), before adding text to the article.
