Airline eliminated all intermediate stops on flights to the United States? edit

Salam guys, it seems no one has added any comments here before, so I'll be the first to leave my words of wisdom here :D I'm removing the following line from the "History" section: "In 1999 the airline eliminated all intermediate stops on flights to the United States, hoping to attract more North American passengers."

All flights to USA take at least one stop (mostly Manchester, probably all stops between Pakistan and USA are at Manchester). Please do your homework before posting anything :) Waqas.usman 12:28, 26 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

This is true. The stops done for security purposes due to American government concerns.American security intelligence services want to identify all passengers before they enter the USA.Nadirali 04:25, 4 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

So, on the George Bush Intercontinental Airport article, why isn't Manchester listed as a destination? I have removed Manchester as a destination on the O'Hare International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport article. Can someone give me an explanation? Bucs2004 21:50, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Adding Airline Infobox edit

I've just added infobox, and therefore had to move the two jumbo pics downward. Waqas.usman 15:18, 26 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Manchester International Airport edit

Does Manchester International Airport (MAN) really deserve to be a focus city? Just becuase it offers flights there, doesn't really mean it's a focus city. -- Kilo-Lima 16:30, 21 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Except for the fact it's the via point between Pakistan and the US[1]. As you can see from the link, the airport gets 37 flights per week, compared to 10 at LHR, 5 at STN and 5 at FRA. If you compare to another of PIA's focus cities Peshawar, the numbers (45) are fairly similar. Just my two cents DannyM 14:21, 5 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Major re-organization of the article edit

I have reorganized the article because under the heading [The 21st Century] a lot of stuff was posted over the time without much organization.

I have separated "The 21st Century" from "History" and pasted it as the main heading. Also combined the 777 orders related paragraphs together, and created the following sub-headings: 2.1 Boeing 777 Orders

2.2 French ATR to Replace Fokker

2.3 All-Female Cockpit Crew Flight

2.4 777 "C" Check Overhaul at Ispahani

2.5 Delivery of the Worldliner 777-200LR

I've thought over the sub-headings and revised some of them a few times, please update any of these if you have more appropriate sub-headings. Waqas.usman 16:54, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pakistan International Airlines destinations edit

All the domestic and international destinations of Pakistan International Airlines are located at Pakistan International Airlines destinations. Please do not add destinations on the main PIA page.

Siddiqui 12:21, 16 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

All planned service's information can added on main page destination section as a brief till its confirmed, there is no hard and fast rule for this. But since a silly rule here requires sources to validate this, which are not available, therefore I cannot restore the deleted stuff.

Dead link edit

During several automated bot runs the following external link was found to be unavailable. Please check if the link is in fact down and fix or remove it in that case!

History section edit

There seemed to be lot of data that was not put into proper english and there were far too many subheadings within this section. I have added more data and have worded to make it flow and put in some recent news about the ban. --Fast track 18:40, 3 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Factual error: World record of Boeing 720B flight was delivery flight SEA - LHR - KHI , NOT as KHI - LHR in original article. Pilot was senior Capt Abdullah Baig. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kslall8765 (talkcontribs) 14:21, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

There seems to be an unwieldy mixture of British and American spelling used in the article (eg organisation vs organization). What should be the standard policy keeping in mind that PIA is a Commonwealth airline?

PIA parent company edit

I have changed the parent company to the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, and have changed the lead paragraph to Pakistan International Airlines Corporation. Pakistan International Airlines has the legal name of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation. This is similar to Qantas Airways having the legal name of Qantas Airways Limited, Singapore Airlines being known as Singapore Airlines Limited, etc, etc. WP:MOS tells us that the lead paragraph should show this legal name. The parent company of PIAC is the entity which has enough voting shares in the company to be able to dictate board decisions, as per the annual report which has been referenced in the infobox, this is the Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, which of course is the Pakistani government. --Russavia 14:58, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

What does the urdu writing in the logo mean? Maikel 16:42, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Urdu writing is a transliteration of "PIA" into Urdu. (82.178.133.128 (talk) 14:12, 16 December 2007 (UTC))Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:PIAAwardsLogo.gif edit

Image:PIAAwardsLogo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

PEK and BKK edit

Recently, PEK and BKK have been added to the airline's infox as PIA's focus cities. What makes them focus cities? They just offer flights to their hubs and 1 non-hub destination. 125.34.65.92 (talk) 08:45, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please note that code PEK now stands for Capital Airport itself, code for the city in general is now BJS

GA Review edit

This review is transcluded from Talk:Pakistan International Airlines/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.
GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose):   b (MoS):
    • The lead is very short for an article this length. It should be at least twice the length, if not three-fold. The lead does not summarize the article, for instance it lacks coverage of the fleet and incidents.
    • National carrier is a weasel word. It does actually not mean anything. If an airline is state-owned, state it as such. If it holds a domestic monopoly, state it as such. If it is the largest airline in a country, state it as such.  Done
    • Avoid bold and incorrect capitalization in the infobox.
    • Concerning ownership, there is internal non-consistency between the header (stating the airline is 87% state owned), and the privatization section, that states fully owned.
    • It is incorrect to state that they were blacklisted in '27' EU states, because a EU ban on an airline also effects the European Economic Area and Swtizerland, who have common avation regulation with EU.
    • The 'destinations' section is completely unhelpfull. Instead of listing those destinations that will begin soon, write a prose section describing the range of destinations offered (domestic, international, intercontinental, frequency etc).
    • The 'financial performance' section should instead be converted into prose that describes the airlines performance, and lists key operational and financial events and operations.
    • Do not put company names in italics.
    • The 'code share' section is confusing, because it does not indicate which party is actually flying, and which is piggybacking. Instead include this as prose in the destinations section.
    • Avoid bold in tables, except for the header.
    • Retired fleet should contain prose, and the {{main}} link is red.
    • 'Marketing and sponsorships' should be rewritten to prose.
    • 'Achievements and recognitions' is just a bunch of trivia, which should be avoided. Incorporate this into the other sections.
    • Avoid bolding the incidents in the section.
    • The 'see also' section could be to just a single entry (transport in Pakistan).
    • Further reading is for literature, not blog entries. Incorporate the best links into external, and cut it down to a bare minimum. Only include content that is not covered in the article and the references (which normally is limited to only the official site, which should instead be in the infobox). While 'external links' sections are permitted, they are discouraged.
    • The sections are scattered around, and are not in any logical order. For instance, try to keep business together, operations together, and history to itself. As mentioned, many of the sections are very bare, and could easily be removed.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references):   b (citations to reliable sources):   c (OR):
    • Large parts of the article are completely unreferenced; notably 'history', 'financial performance', 'cargo operations' and 'achievements and recognitions'.
    • There are {{fact}} tags.
    • Hardly any of the references are formatted correctly. Consider using {{cite}} templates. More at WP:Citing sources.
    • Airliners.net is not a reliable source.
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects):   b (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales):   b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
I am failing the article without doing a full review. Though there has been put much good work into the article, there is still a lot of work before it reaches GA. Once the comments have been addressed, consider a peer review before renomination for GA, since there are many aspects I have not even looked at. The best of luck with the continuation. help with this edit

A dumb user who claims to be a aviation expert is undoing my edits of Asiana code share which PIA do not have, keeps asking for reference, when the airlines are not codesharing how can there be a source to prove aginst it, also the code share article from PIA website is already linked showing airlines that they partner with.119.155.44.186 (talk) 17:42, 3 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Achievements and recognitions edit

Maybe this section should be trimmed slightly. Its full of none import and trivial information. Some i wouldn't count as an Achievement or recognition, for example being the first to fly the 777-200LR. --JetBlast (talk) 12:34, 3 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Of ocurse it's a recognition. PIA was the launch customer of this plane. Why remove it without discussion? 99.253.218.203 (talk) 07:02, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
No they where not United was the launch customer of the 777. --JetBlast (talk) 16:41, 1 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

PIA makeover 2014 edit

I will be performing makeover of PIA article. My focus will be to provide up to date references, clear old information and to remove unnecessary pictures and/or text. I will likely do a section a week, so it's easy to get feedback and easier to swallow new information. Please let me know here if you'd like to see something or to dispute with any info I write. I'll be performing the makeover starting in about a weeks time so everyone has a chance to read this notice. Meanwhile, I urge anyone to not create edit war and reach a conclusion on this page if a dispute arises. Uabbas92 (talk) 01:09, 27 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Pakistan International Airlines Fleet edit

I was just browsing through the Pakistan International Airlines page when I saw that it was written an order was placed for A350-900's and B787-8's. This confused me, because I checked on the internet, and couldn't find any evidence. I thought maybe this is an accident and wanted to check if it was true. 115.186.144.84 (talk) 10:58, 12 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

It was probably vandalism and has now been removed. MilborneOne (talk) 17:49, 12 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Achievements and recognition section should be restored edit

I remember many years back there was a section that listed the achievements and recognition. Restoring it is perfectly neutral as there are biographies of professionals who's achievements are recognized in their area of profession. Then there's also the issue of criticism sections in articles. So having an achievements and recognition section should be restored. If anyone has objections please post them here.--Nadirali نادرالی (talk) 04:53, 10 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

If I remember most of it was trivia, if the achievement is that notable it should be in the history section it doesnt need and separate section. MilborneOne (talk) 13:33, 10 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
