Mexico?

Why has this been designated a "Mexico broadcasting stubs" and categorized among "Mexico radio networks"? I don't see any indication that they have stations in Mexico. -Willmcw 20:26, July 23, 2005 (UTC)

88.1 fm in Fresno is the central valley's home to pacifica.

There are only 5 stations chartered as Pacifica stations. Many other community, college, and public broadcasting stations also carry some Pacifica programming, but this does not make them a Pacifica station. Bhuston 04:39, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Missing History?

I'm rather surprised to not find the history of the KPFK lockout, the KPFT bombings, the hostile takeover of the Pacifica Board, and the listener lawsuit. Bhuston 04:43, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

A little help needed

I just finished reformatting the "National Board" table. However, try as I might (tried everything I could think of), I was unable to come up with the "magic code" to close off that section and keep the next section ("See also") from intruding/overlapping. Can anyone point out the solution? (I'm sure there must be one.) Cgingold 12:16, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

I just moved the table back to the history section. The way it was made the article look really bad....sorry. By all means if you can find a better way to put it feel free to change it.--Jersey Devil 09:24, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Whitewash

This article reads like a PR release by a supporter. It should discuss the historic role of Pacifica as a communist front organization, and it's widely criticised and controversial funding by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Pacifica is simply not a politically active liberal public radio outlet. KPFK/Pacifica admits all day long every day that it is a radical, revolutionary, Marxist activist organizational hub. It partners with International ANSWER and Code Pink at rallies; praises Seattle anarchists, the "LA Rebellion", and car burning eco-terrorists; campaigns for Green, Socialist, and Peace & Freedom candidates; lauds Castro and Chavez; is pro-Palestinian to the point of anti-Semitism; officially promotes 9-11 conspiracy theorists; for four years referred to Bush as "President-Select Bush" in it's "news" stories; and broadcasts revolutionary rhetoric from cop-killer Mumia Abu Jamal. It represents the radical extreme of leftist activism. And it receives million annually from the CPB, and payes no taxes. One preacher campaigns for a candidate and the IRS investigates the church's tax free status, but Pacifica remains tax-free and publicly-funded despite strident and partisan political organizing and advocacy. None of this controversy gets one word of attention here. By sin of omission, this article makes Pacifica sound like Air America. Scientology

The reference to Scientology in the now-deleted section would require both a reliable source and evidence of notability. As a minor target of a sporge attack, probably by the CoS, in the 1990s, I have no interest in supporting them or of giving them credibility, but that material was unsourced material about a living person, and should have been summarily removed, as it was. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 19:47, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

A "Network"?

I question the liberal use of the word "network" on this page. Pacifica clearly does not fit Wiki's own definition of a "system which distributes programming to multiple stations simultaneously, or slightly delayed". Pacifica makes a menu of programs available which AFAIK are taken on an à la carte basis to be broadcast at a time of each station's choosing, rather than as a live feed (excepting of course live news feeds on special events). The previous wording on the page describing a "network of over 100 stations" clearly was misleading for that reason, especially considering the organization owns only five stations and even they don't simulcast most programming. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.27.241.148 (talk) 01:12, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Pacifica Foundation Radio Board of Directors

This is an already-set up section but contains names that are no longer PNB Pacifica Nat'l Board members and needs to be revised. I hesitate to incur wrath of those who want to continue to think they are important there. The elections of PNB just took place a few months ago with some contentions of who is legit and who is no longer eligible, being termed-out. Resolution and stability is not yet in sight. added update to very old prior "ongoing topics 2002" with 4+ citations for external information and reference to a recent summary of recent actions by attys & individuals to 'take over' bankrupt radio stations, umbrellaled by Pacifica. not sure if I'm doing "citations" correctly, so please just correct the process I may not be doing well enough. info is relevant and there is so much contradictory versions in various small media sites of all sides that is 'too much' to include anywhere. Frankly, much of the material you added should not be on Wikipedia in its current form. It reads as if written by someone with an axe to grind. It says in Wikipedia's voice many disparaging things about the organization and many of the individuals involved. As such this material absolutely demands excellent references, per WP:V and WP:RS, references that show reliable sources expressing these judgments (WP editors are not allowed to make judgments, that is called original research or original synthesis). And this will be needed for every claim of fact.

Note that it is ok to say e.g. "So-and-so concluded that the organization was in financial trouble", if so-and-so can be considered an authority, and if it is backed up by a reference to a direct quote in a WP:RS. It is not at all ok for Wikipedia to appear to draw such a conclusion on its own.

Furthermore, and more urgently, everything on WP that mentions a living person—particularly if it puts them in a negative light—absolutely must comply with the more stringent referencing requirements of WP:BLP.

And then there's WP:NPOV.

Have you had some past connection with Pacifica? If so you must also comply with WP:COI.

In sum, I am not quite ready to revert back to the version before any of your edits, but I'm certainly leaning that way. At the very minimum I am likely to lace the whole thing with "citation needed", "according to whom?", etc,. templates. The result of your edits reads like something that belongs as an article in a magazine where people expect to find strong opinions, like maybe Rolling Stone or Esquire. Not an encyclopedia article. This is not the place to "get the truth out about what is happening at Pacifica", and that's the impression you've given me. If that is in fact your purpose you need to find another outlet. This article needs to be updated with info on controversy over WBAI's back-owed rent situation and how that might force all Pacifica Foundation station off the air.

Apparently the owner of WBAI's lease has been accused of price gouging over broadcast antenna lease costs and has attempted to cease all assets of the Pacifica Foundation to reclaim back owed rent regarding the lease. Here are some articles covering the details:
