Buttons edit

Has anyone else ever heard of this ridiculous "custom" of leaving the second button unbuttoned? —Preceding unsigned comment added by VetPsychWars (talkcontribs) 18:08, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

The disambiguation page for "topcoat" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topcoat) takes you here, however the first paragraph distinguishes topcoats from overcoats. Should we make a new page for topcoats? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danni Ruthvan (talkcontribs) 19:04, 10 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

*Outer*coats? edit

Surely if this page serves as the page for both Topcoats and Overcoats, but Overcoats cannot be Topcoats/Topcoats aren't Overcoats, then the page should be renamed to "outercoat"? Techhead7890 (talk) 12:49, 15 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

OvercoatOutercoat – Giving this proposal a try, as seen and argued for right above, and considering the second paragraph of the lead section of the article. Chicbyaccident (talk) 20:48, 19 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Given that Outercoat is still a redlink in 2018, I find have great doubts about this request. The new title would violate WP:ASTONISH. "Outercoat" is not in the OED. Outer coat does not list this page as an option. There are no cites on this article, let alone any that back up the purported distinction between topcoats and overcoats. Greatcoats are listed as a type of overcoat, and topcoats are likely just a type of overcoat as well (light overcoats, not distinguished entirely from overcoats; in fact, that's what the dab page at Topcoat has said for years). Alright. Would creating outercoat be motivated? Chicbyaccident (talk) 20:11, 21 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Topcoat is the real term for what you mean. Andy Dingley (talk) 23:54, 21 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. The current title is the common name. Rreagan007 (talk) 23:53, 21 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Closing comment:There seems to be some work to be done to clarify the scope of this article. A look at coat (clothing) and if necessary revising it seems the first step to me. Then see which of the many types of coat should have articles, and which should be redirects to other articles or sections. Andrewa (talk) 02:26, 26 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
