Can someone provide a direct reference to Pigafetta's quote about the speed of the outrigger? I cannot seem to find it after a somewhat exhaustive search.

Also "The sport is also known as Wa'a racing in some parts of the Pacific" is not accurate. Wa'a is Hawaiian. Va'a is Tahitian. I think it's different in other polynesian languages. --Keizo 05:49, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Do others think the reference to personnal floatation devices should be deleted or modified with a satement that the US Coast Guard exempts OC1 OC2 and OC6 outrigger canoes from the standard USCG PFD requirement? 76.83.142.181 06:35, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Ron

From what I understand, the USCG rules on PFDs make no specific exemption for OC1/OC2/OC6 outrigger canoes, although the PFD rules may not be very strictly enforced in some places. Canoes and kayaks in general do not have to have a type IV PFD (throw ring type) but do have to have a wearable PFD for everyone on board.

The main photo tagline states that it is two canoes racing. I only see one! When you click on the photo the specific tagline says that it is a "six man" canoe... that should say "six person" or "six paddler" canoe. Image of paddler

Under the section Paddlers there is an image of a naked person of indeterminate age. It is not clear weather or not this is an image of a naked child. Unless it can be shown that the naked person shown is not a minor, I think the image should be removed. Further I don't see how this image contributes to the section on paddling an outrigger canoe, since it's not clear from the image that the person is even holding a paddle and what stroke they are employing. While it may be true that historically, no clothing was work by people paddling outrigger canoes, I don't think that's typical now. Nickridiculous (talk) 20:31, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
