Merge discussion edit

I merged to this article from the TonB-dependent receptor plug domain article because of the astoundingly high amount of overlap between the two articles. The plug domain article was reconstituted from its history. That article is basically one sentence and maybe a single reference different than this article. It is similar down to line spacing, suggesting that its creation was in whole simply copied from this page (or vice versa). My edit here to include the only unique plug domain text from the other article was not removed, reasonably suggesting to me, that it is an acceptable feature for discussing the receptor as a whole. The domain itself does not exist outside of the receptor and is not mirrored in any other protein other than TonB-dependent receptors. Unlike other vastly more general protein domains, like Zinc finger or others highlighted with the navbox at Template:Protein domains, this is not a generalized domain and does not merit its own article, particularly if its own article is wholly comprised of this article's text. ju66l3r (talk) 19:38, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Right. This is duplication. But an article about plug domain must tell something about the whole protein where this plug has been inserted. If you can describe this better, please do. This plug domain was found in many beta-barrel proteins; its folding and biolgical role were studied. So, it is notable enough for an article, but I do not have time to improve the article myself. Thank you for your interest to this subject.Biophys (talk) 19:55, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Please see this: [1].Biophys (talk) 20:01, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure either way. There are some examples on Pfam where the plug can be seen without the barrel, so they are different domains, but then again, there aren't many examples. Possibly one page for the entire protein with sections for each domain (with it's own Pfam box). I don't think i know enough to call it either way :/ Abergabe (talk) 10:00, 24 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
