I'm not sure. Being called it in a publication, or being described in some other way that implies she is. Or something she wrote in which she argued in favor of rights for animals. SlimVirgin ^(talk) 10:04, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

Tone?

Nationality

The info-box has Ouida down as French-British.
Although her father spoke French, he was from Guernsey, which is a Crown dependency, not part of France. This would not give her French nationality, unless, for some reason, her father actually held French nationality.
She was not born in France, her mother was not French and she did not marry a Frenchman, so the other "normal" methods of obtaining dual nationality do not apply.
Is there a Reliable Source for this dual nationality? Alternatively, was it just something that Ouida claimed? The article does state that she "identified with the French" but this does not grant anyone nationality.

Nurnberg Stove was already published in Bimbi 1882. I cannot find the earlier publication, but its date should be before 1882. Please correct or show the earlier date. ReijiYamashina777 (talk) 05:54, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

Photo

I'm not convinced that photo is actually Ouida. It seems to have come from one widely-circulated data point, the NYPL Billy Rose Theatre collection [[1]] - but it looks nothing like the other known images of Ouida on sites such as Encyclopedia Britannica, e.g. [[2]], [[3]] Gordonofcartoon (talk) 14:12, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

Update: sorry if this is original research, but I just got in touch with NYPL; they agree that the old image is not Ouida, and will be changing the credits. I've replaced the one for this article with one from Wikimedia Commons that has clear book sourcing and matches other verifiable images of Ouida. Gordonofcartoon (talk) 20:09, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
