TaraJottawahumane is an employee of the Ottawa Humane Society and she keeps editing the article and deleting information. Green Squares (talk) 09:24, 8 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

She is probably new at this - what information do you think she shouldn't delete? I'm perusing (admittedly quite quickly) the history for this page. She's removed references to the Toronto Humane Society (see discussion below), had added a couple of blurbs, etc. Instead of pointing fingers as you help this entry grow, why not follow Wikipedia standards [1] and start a discussion? Toronto Humane Society

edit

The Toronto Humane Society is not affiliated with the Ottawa Humane Society. The organizations are in different cities, and as both of them serve municipal jurisdictions, I do not understand why the THS link is included. If the OHS is to be linked with other animal shelters, it should be the ones they routinely assist (such as the Iqaluit Shelter). GC (talk) 20:15, 8 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Background

edit

The OHS is not affiliated with other humane societies, and its history differs from that of the Montreal SPCA. Shouldn't the OHS background entry reflect the background of the OHS, and not that of other SPCAs in Canada or that of a federal organization? The OHS has its history available online at www.ottawahumane.ca/history.html [2] GC (talk) 20:23, 8 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Ottawa Humane Society is in no way associated with the Humane Society of Canada. Could this link please be removed? TaraJottawahumane (talk) 18:48, 20 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Is each Humane Society in Canada completely autonomous? I would have thought they would be guided by the same general rules or a set of provincial or national rules ? Green Squares (talk) 20:56, 20 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

There are no provincial or national "rules" for humane socieites. Most large humane socieities in Canada are affliated with a provincial organization (as we are with the OSPCA) or their interests are represented nationally by the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies. How a humane society is guided depends on the province or municipality in which it operates, and internal governance through a board of directors. The practices and policies of humane societies can vary widely across Canada, and indeed, across North America.

The Humane Society of Canada is a separate fundraising group reflecting personal interests with absolutely no affliation to local humane societies across Canada. TaraJottawahumane (talk) 15:15, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I removed the external link, as requested. Green Squares (talk) 20:09, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
