Probably the last thing you want to hear, but I have two significant concerns about this article.

The first is the stuff cited to Fritts. The Fritts source appears to be self-published, and its either talking about something completely different or is just frankly wrong. I was able to bring up the applicable snippet view, and I think it may be referring to a Kansas militia unit of some sort. Harveyville and Wilmington are far enough north in Kansas that there was enough Union control that the Confederates wouldn't have been able to muster or drill troops in the area. Second, the unit wouldn't have been able to fight at Cabin Creek on October 19 and then be 220 miles away on October 22/23 to fight at Byram's Ford; the units with Watie in the Indian Territory weren't at Byram's Ford. I really think Fritts is either wrong or referring to a Kansas Militia unit.

I'm also a little concerned with the support for They also participated in Price's Missouri Expedition in late 1864, forming part of the rearguard - I'm not getting the right snippet view for the Andreas 1976 source to check that, but the Stephenson 1947 source is citing the whole journal bit for this article by E. E. Dale, which I can access fully. The bit in there about the Osage battalion forming the rear guard of an expedition is actually referring to 1862 events. What does the Andreas 1976 source say?

The rest of the article, beyond those two bits, looks pretty solid. I think once we get these two concerns sorted out, this should not require much to pass. Hog Farm _Talk 00:47, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi Hog Farm, thanks for starting this review. I had hoped you'd pick it up, seeing as it's outside my usual area (I can't even remember how I came across the subject!). I think I must have added Fritts when I was desperate for any sources on this unit. I should have removed it long ago and certainly before bringing it here; I've taken it out. I've also removed Andreas, I couldn't get the right snippet from Andreas either now, but looking closer into Stephenson, what I thought referred to an Osage battalion of Price's expedition was actually a reference to a Union unit of the same name that took part in the Indian Expedition of 1862 (presumably an ad-hoc unit or possibly part of the Indian Home Guard), now removed - Dumelow (talk) 06:23, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

With that out of the way, here are the minor points.

• I recommend avoiding the use of season names per MOS:SEASONS.
• "Other issues included the Union's occupation of much of the Osage reserve throughout the war, and the high level of support for the Union among the Osage people, A number of Osage formed a Union "Osage Battalion" that took part in Colonel William Weer's Indian Expedition of 1862" - Looks like the comma after "people" should be a period
