Non-notable subject; disclosure
editThere is no evidence that the activist organization described on this page is notable, and the purpose of the page appears to be increase the visibility of the organization. Because the founder of the group has levied off-wiki attacks against people whom I know, I have noted the concerns with the appropriate tags rather than nominate it for AfD.
— James Cantor (talk) 14:19, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- Subsequent to placing this entry in 2006 I was invited to become a board member of OII(UK) - this is independent of OII in Canada, the USA, or any of the numerous languages and countries represented. Thus, whilst not having a COI at the time the entry was created, I have been unable to contribute to this page specifically. Looking through the contributors, I can identify nobody who has an involvement with OII that I am aware of. Whilst Cantor's colleagues have gone to some trouble to make out that OII does not exist, clearly it does, and the effort put in to silence OII members clearly proves it is notable. This recent encroachment by Cantor is another example of the attempted suppression of dissident intersex voices. OII is notable primarily because it facilitates expression of intersex voices independent of medical interests. I would suggest Cantor has a COI in this, as suggested by his own comments, and should refrain from editing this page in the same way I have. MishMich (talk) 08:47, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- I ceased to be a board member of OII(UK) over a year ago, when I moved from the UK. The country I now live has no OII. I maintain good relations with a few individuals I know in OII Australia and other parts of OII elsewhere, but have no formal association any more. I will continue to refrain from contributing to this article beyond the talk page, because other interested parties have maintained this approach themselves.- MishMich - Talk - 04:19, 8 November 2011 (UTC)
- I became a board member again late 2012, around the time of my heart attack, as detailed elsewhere, although I am not that active due to my focus on recovery, and have continued to have little to do with Wikipedia. I need to point out that the OII web-site has been completely re-vamped, so some of the links provided below no longer work. If I get time I can go through them, although prefer not to edit this page for the reasons explained above. - MishMich - Talk - 02:02, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
Agree that this page *completely* reads as a poorly written publicity page for a non-notable false-front org. Imo Hedonistbot4000 (talk) 13:07, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
references to OII
editI now have some information (references to organisation in third-party sources) that helps substantiate the organisation's notability. I would request that I be allowed to start inserting this into the page in a relevant section.

Quotation from Diamond paper
editAdding full quote per notability concerns: "The largest intersex support group in the world—Organisation Intersex International—considers such terms negative, supports the use of nonstigmatizing expressions such as "variety of sex development", and would probably support the term "differences of sex development"
Notability is established by being largest. Jokestress (talk) 19:35, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Proposed merge with OII Russia
editThere doesn't seem to be enough coverage in independent, reliable sources to establish the independent notability of OII Russia. Thus, I would suggest merging it with the article on the parent organization. signed, Rosguill talk 19:40, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
- Note that * has merge to Intersex Russia, which now seems to justify independent notability. I'll close the current proposal, on the grounds that the proposed incoming page no longer exists. Klbrain (talk) 21:59, 24 February 2020 (UTC)
