Proposal of edits to the Orderic Vitalis article. edit

Hello everyone. my colleague and I are planning to edit and expand this article so that it includes some more information about Orderic Vitalis. We plan to revise the lead to the article so that it reflects the content in the rest of the article. We also want to add information about Vitalis' youth from the works of Marjorie Chibnall and other scholars to the background. Along with those additions, we would like to change the title of the section to Background and Early Life. Next we plan to expand on Vitalis' monastic life. Currently the article describes it as uneventful. We hope to remove this as, to whatever degree this may seem factual, it doesn't truly represent his time in his Abbey. We hope to add information on the various titles that he held in the church and the contributions he made as a scribe and librarian. We do not plan to edit the Historia Ecclesiastica section. Lastly we are planning to add an additional section dedicated to Vitalis' secular commentary. While many of his writings had a religious tone, he also spoke on the events of his day. following in the footsteps of Chibnall, we would like to expand the article to reflect the importance of his comments on secular life and the audience they were intended for. hopefully this will allow us to link other wikipedia articles to this one and expand its viewership.

Please look over the edits, written in bold, on my sandbox to review the additions we are planning to make. User:Seanconnerysbeard/Orderic Vitalis

The article as it stands is still partially derived from the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica; I think you can rewrite as much of it as you want. The references also need to be reworked to use Wikipedia:Citation templates properly. AndrewNJ (talk) 05:38, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
