Logistics of the ORIS edit

"Contrary to some claims made by rail operators, the ORIS does not use the Katherine Intermodal Terminal to move its produce to market." Could someone add a citation to the above statement if one exists? Thanks, Swampy 124.179.92.243 (talk) 02:47, 20 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

The various setbacks, stages and project funding need to be detailed. This 2009 article in the Australian might be useful. - Shiftchange (talk) 15:29, 24 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ord River Irrigation Area ORIA v ORIS edit

Should the information on the Ord River Irrigation Area (ORIA - aka Ord Scheme) be broken out into a new page? Should the "Ord River Irrigation Scheme" (ORIS is not in as common use as ORIA) Section really be broken out into a "History" section? KHS-Boab (talk) 16:53, 6 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Possibly, but I can't see why for the time being it can't be expanded on this page. - Shiftchange (talk) 03:40, 7 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
OK thanks for the rapid reply, I have carried on here and added various sections to the history. Hope this is ok as I am fairly new and novice to wiki. KHS-Boab (talk) 09:34, 7 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
No problem. I will keep an eye on it and correct any mistakes. - 09:39, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Negri River edit

I notice that the Negri River link leads to a river in Romania. That page needs a disambiguation notice. Is the following sufficient to place on the Negri River (Romania) page?

Having said that I am suggesting that the new page that needs to be created however should be "Negri River, Australia" as the river rises in the Northern Territory and flows into the Ord River as a tributary inside Western Australia. Does this make sense and is the line above enough to place on the Negri River (Romania) page? (Select Edit to see the code) - Any takers to help out a newbie? KHS-Boab (talk) 14:53, 8 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yes that hatnote is the correct one, however the name of the Australian river should be Negri River (Australia) to conform to naming conventions and because it flows through more than one state. - Shiftchange (talk) 15:06, 8 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Better would be turning Negri River into a disambiguation page, and changing the current one to Negri River (Romania). - DavidWBrooks (talk) 15:16, 8 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Shiftchange - As you or David were writing so was I and I got an edit conflict as I had been to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Rivers and had found that as you so rightly point out that it is correct to use brackets for rivers rather than commas eg Negri River (Australia) rather than Negri River, Australia.

So had changed the note to...

David wouldn't that then destroy all links to the original page and the disambiguation pages says if only one other instance to leave it? IE Not to have a separate disambiguation page? - KHS-Boab (talk) 15:23, 8 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

It wouldn't destroy the links but it would turn them into disambiguation links - which could, in future times, be updated to direct links. I have created the Australia river page, by the way, as an extreme stub.
I haven't moved a page in so long I have forgotten the process; there's a specific method so that you don't lose the Talk page. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 15:25, 8 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Disappearance of the Common Banana Prawn edit

The citation for this claim is an ABC News story, where the claim is made (unsubstantiated) by somebody opposing an irrigation scheme in Queensland. I can't even determine what a "Common Banana Prawn" is, much less its history in the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf. Can anybody clarify this claim, and include a more reliable source? 60.242.66.215 (talk) 06:24, 18 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

It did not touch the cruel destiny of the Aboriginal tribes who lived in the Ord river basin. These people weren't even a part of any Australian census and were annihilated.
