Optimus Rhyme entry

Hello, I just wanted to say that this is my first scratch-made page. I've tried my best to uphold the style and rules of wikipedia. The page is not complete, but both my time and my english are insufficient to continue this page.

Things I would like to see added:
- History of Optimus Rhyme
- Early work
- Concerts (such as penny arcade expo)
- Analasys of their lyrics, opinions and metaphors

I hope I've made a nice set-up for future expansion.

Is Grimrock still in the group? He doesn't appear to be listed in the official roster on their website, though he's still on the ping-pong board rankings.

Who is Thundercracker? Is he a former band member? If so, please open a new section in the article name it 'former band members,' instead of adding 'KIA 2003' and adding him to the 'current band members'.

Done and done. I also added Galaxion Waxspin, who was listed as a band member of the first incarnation of their site and is mentioned in some of their earlier songs. - Gasface

It's a band not a "him." They're signed to a label, have released one album and are almost done with a second, and have played the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) for two years running. So yes, there are many other bands that are more notable than Optimus Rhyme but I think they are notable enough to be included. I see no such explanation in the article, and would argue that if the article doesn't make notability obvious, then there's something wrong with the article, and focus should be on improving it, not defending it, considering it's not even up for deletion at the moment. It's on the Narcofunk page, it says "Optimus Rhyme continued to grow their music and audience in 2005 being nominated for best hip-hop group in Seattle and playing some great shows including Penny Arcade's PAX."

Also: Optimus Rhyme rocked the Penny Arcade Expo for a second year running. 1Up,com did an interview with our very own MC Wheelie which can be found here. Word on the street is that Optimus is also getting some coverage in the current issue of Nintendo Power Magazine so be sure to check that as well.

No offense, but most people don't read Penny Arcade Expo(yes, yes, I know its popular on the internet). However, proof of a Nintendo Power Magazine interview would make him notable.... until that proof is provided, he can be considered non-notable, and I wouldn't be surprised if this article was deleted.--Urthogie 15:48, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Likewise, no offence, but Optimus Rhyme is a band consisting of 4-5 people, and not a 'him' to which you keep referring. Second, Penny Arcade is one of the most popular webcomics on the net, and it's authors have started a traveling gaming/geek-culture event named the Penny Arcade Expo, which already has attracted thousands of visitors.

You are quite unaware of these facts, which are stated and linked in this article. I know better not to judge comment by it's scource, and with all-due respect, you only seem to be intrested in deleting this article, even stating "I wouldn't be surprised if this article was deleted", which I can interpret as a capped threat, seeing the fact you've already put this article up for AFD once before.

So why don't you (or anybody else) help me instead? I'm not a resident of the United States, and I can't get the US Nintendo Power Magazine. If anyone would be so kind as to look for the Optimus Rhyme coverage in the September and October issues of 2005 and provide me with the proof you so dearly want.

I actually am aware of these facts about Penny Arcade. Unfortunately, taking part in a music festival does not establish notability. Nor does being on a website focused on comics. From the November issue of Nintendo Power, volume 197, in a featured article in the Nintendo Power archives (although the text is too tiny to read there, I was able to dig up the article): "The video game pianist Martin Leung (who we featured in Volume 195) kicked off the Friday-night concert, followed by hip-hop band Optimus Rhyme. (Not only is OR fronted by Nintendo employee Andy Hartpence, but the band has a song called 'Tim Garret,' titled after the long-time Nintendo Power graphic designer.)" and then the caption of the large picture of the Optimus Rhyme front-man in the center of the page reads "Optimus Rhyme MC Andy Hartpence is also known as NOA Andy on the Nintendo.com boards."

But honestly, I think energy would be better spent either making the article better or finding a more-pointless article to attack? I think what is there so far, while it could be better, is pretty good already. We could use some info on Andy/Wheelie's ex-wife who left him for a druggie (since there is at least two songs that mention this) and info on why Thundercracker the drummer left the band. I'm not sure how to go about finding more info without delving into original research territory, though. Thanks for the assist. I don't know about the past/background of (any) of the Optimus Rhyme members, but I am hesitant to add such sensitive information on wikipedia.

What I truly don't understand is how can I 'cite the sources'? The biggest Source I've got is the album and downloadable songs themselves? Or doesn't wikipedia accept 'reviews' from Wikipedians themselves?

You can cite the album itself, just follow the rules of citation. These two websites ([1], [2]) can generate properly formatted citations for albums and other music sources. If you have written a review that has been published in a notable source, you could use it as a reference, otherwise you would be violating the guideline that prohibits original research. — ApolloCreed ^{(comment) (talk)} 17:49, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

I can understand the rules of Wikipedia. I have to admit that I'm a Optimus Rhyme fan, so if I'd write reviews myself I'd disrupt the neutrality of this article. The Optimus Rhyme-websites themselves have enough links to official reviews, so I've got to cite those sources.

Cyanide and Happiness Entry

The webcomic Cyanide and Happiness creates a reference to Optimus Rhyme, explaining how the writers of the comic created a parody of Optimus Prime named "Optimus Rhyme" as children, and then, as adults, proceeded to create a comic reflecting their childhood joke. One of the writers then searched Optimus Rhyme in Google Image and found out Optimus Rhyme was indeed a hip hop music group.
