Has there been any research on the possibility of a common Indo-European origin for Ophion and the Norse Midgard Serpent? — Gwalla | Talk 22:07, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- There can be no connection because the Midgard Serpent is the northern name for the constellation Hydra as Nidhöggr is the name for the constellation Draco, Naglfar the name of the (former; it's not in use today)constellation Argo and Ratatoskr the name of the constellation Orion, while Yggdrasil means the axis of the earth on which as a tree trunk the stars seems to hang like the golden apples at an apple tree.--87.178.203.212 (talk) 16:39, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
Ophion an aquatic deity? edit
Why is Ophion listed as an aquatic deity? According to Apollonius of Rhodos he sank into the ocean (which in my opinion means: because of the flood of the Gilgamesh-Epic which is also mentioned in the indian Puranas). The text of the article says nothing about the transformation or metamorphosis of Ophion to a god of the sea.--87.178.203.212 (talk) 16:46, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
