Military Operation edit
This article tends to downplay the military nature of the operation. There were significant amounts of troops in the Baltic "fortresses" who could be redeployed into the defence of Germany proper. Secondly, evacuating civilians made it easier to keep the troops supplied as they held onto these positions in seige conditions. Naturally after the war Donitz would portray the operation as humanitarian, but the fact that (as noted) he was prioritising troops even after Hitler's death indicates his real concern.--Jack Upland (talk) 04:12, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
