Syntax error in "Background"

edit

There is a parenthetical that reads as follows: (subtitled "A chilling examination of the nature, beliefs and practices of the "now religion'"). A syntax error is here, as it should read: (subtitled "A chilling examination of the nature, beliefs and practices of the 'now religion'"). There is an erroneous double quote within a double quote structure, which ends with a single quote. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.152.106.131 (talk) 16:25, 23 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

the further reading list cites tony ortega's article "double crossed" - but it leads to a 404 error. Scientology created the page to destroy ortega's reputation. please remove the "double crossed" source from the further reading list

Not done for now: Have updated the link. Not sure what you mean by "Scientology created the page to destroy ortega's reputation" - it's an article written by Ortega on the Phoenix New Times website, how does it harm Ortega's reputation? On the other hand, not entirely sure the piece needs to be on the further reading section for this article, neither Graham Berry not Robert Cipriano (which Ortega's piece focuses on) are mentioned here. Perhaps would be more appropriate at Scientology controversies, though it is already used as a citation there. Cannolis (talk) 21:33, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Agreed that it is a Tony Ortega authored article. (I cleaned up the link a bit more.) Grorp (talk) 04:18, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
that's his name. that wasn't tony ortega. it was a slander article created by somebody else to destroy his reputation. if you read through the article it becomes clear. Telltaleatheist (talk) 16:53, 11 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Telltaleatheist: If that were true, then why would Tony Ortega himself link to the article, twice, from his own website here and here? Search these two pages for "Double Crossed (the Graham Berry story)" and you'll see it links to the active version online at Phoenix New Times. However, I will look further into this.   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 15:49, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Confirmed. I have verified that it was indeed written by Tony Ortega.   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 18:15, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
  Closed. Case closed.   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 18:15, 12 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
i dont know why he linked to it, but it's obviously altered. look at this line.
Robert Cipriano, meanwhile, is an admitted liar who says that he willingly committed perjury last year by lying in a deposition taken under oath. A nervous, chameleonlike figure, Cipriano never seems to stay in one place or situation very long. He spent five years living as a gay man and now says he's straight.
the entire article is defending scientology in vile ways. why would tony ortega, which has fought scientology for years, publish vile stuff like that about scientology's opponents? ortega isn't even anti-gay. that statement is clearly using gay as a negative. theres a reason this is a locked subject. scientology tends to use vile, dirty, underhanded means of destroying peoples reputations. this is very clearly an attempt to do that. i mean, this article is about how they framed a woman for murder Telltaleatheist (talk) 21:08, 15 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Telltaleatheist:, I don't know what your motives are with this line of questioning, unless it is to damage the reputation of Ortega. I had written to Tony Ortega to check that article and tell me if he wrote that version or had it been altered. His response was "Yes, that's my article" and "they aren't reading it very carefully", so I consider the matter closed. Any further discussion like this is defamation of Ortega and a violation of WP:Biographies of living persons which can lead to being blocked: "This policy applies to any living person mentioned in a BLP, whether or not that person is the subject of the article, and to material about living persons in other articles and on other pages, including talk pages."   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 21:58, 15 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
