Arkwright
editDoes anyone remember the first name of Arkwright in Open All Hours?
I believe Granville called him Albert in one of the episodes. Episode 6.4 "The Errand Boy Executive" to be precise.User:Hogtree
Spring clip
editThe article mentions that the register drawer is too tightly wound. But it's the spring clip, the clip that holds the money, that's too tight. In the pilot the spring clip slamming onto the money caused the drawer to shut quickly. They often shoved the drawer shut quickly after the spring clip slammed down onto a bill. But they clearly state, time after time, that it's the spring clip. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.232.122.104 (talk) 05:28, 17 December 2012 (UTC)
Littlehampton
editI'm still not really sure about this addition:
- The programme was based on a shop in Norfolk Road, Littlehampton where Barker used to live near.
Although it has been correctly referenced, it seems somewhat speculative to me on the source - after all, the series was not written by Ronnie Barker, and his portrayal could have been based on any corner shop, really. Is there any interview or other page that suggests the Littlehampton corner shop was especially influential other than the town website? Bob talk 21:45, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Vandalism
editEdited to remove vandalisim, Swearing placed in title.
Episode articles
editAs Open All Hours is another top 10 British sitcom, like Fawlty Towers I would propose that articles for each episode are the order of the day. Catchpole (talk) 21:08, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
- Agree. If anyone has books such as a Ronnie Barker biography or other material, sourcing is always helpful. cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 21:36, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Episodes
editWould you guys mind if I implement the wikitable that is formatted for episodes? It might be a little more orderly than what you have going on here now. Hewinsj (talk) 20:22, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
- Absolutely, try it and we can see how it looks. Catchpole (talk) 12:00, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll take a look at it and see what I can pull together. On second glance I notice that this shows episode list uses information in addition to what you would see in a typical episode list so I want to make sure that I figure out the best way to format it. I'll post a sample here once I have something written up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hewinsj (talk • contribs) 01:38, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
"northern shopkeeper"
editEr, north of where exactly? Unless you live at the north pole, everywhere is north of somewhere. (The east end of London is several hundred miles south of where I live, so can I describe Peggy Mitchell as a "southern landlady"?)
If someone is from Doncaster (as Arkwright is) then describe them as such for heavens sake, instead of using some vague compass point. I have to travel south for over an hour on a train to reach Doncaster, so Arkwright isn't in any way "northern" to me! 217.155.20.163 (talk) 00:49, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- While I'm assuming good faith here, I think you're being a bit pedantic about this. I think you'll find that most people will understand what a "northern shopkeeper" refers to (well, if you're from the UK anyway!). Doncaster is south of me too (when I'm at home - it's north when I'm at uni), but I still consider it a northern town. ~~ [ジャム][t - c] 01:20, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Most people from the UK would understand it, but this is an international encyclopedia, not a British one! --Ged UK (talk) 12:41, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I think that was a lot of fuss for one line of text... ~~ [ジャム][t - c] 12:49, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed, it would have been easier to just change it. --Ged UK (talk) 13:08, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Reception
editThere is a suggestion that some people objected to the stammer. If that is so a reference needs to be given.203.184.41.226 (talk) 00:23, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

5 years between S1 and 2
editAny particular reason for such a long gap, the reason seems to be omitted, was it originally cancelled after the first series? 51.7.116.173 (talk) 02:04, 18 November 2017 (UTC)
Setting??
editThis article and the one for Still Open All Hours state (without a source) that the two series are set in Balby / Doncaster. I know that's the filming location for the shop exterior, but I don't think that's the same as it being "set" there. I would say it's just being used to represent a generic northern terraced street. Is there any instance of dialogue within the programmes that actually say where the action is supposed to be taking place? I don't recall any in the original run, but I haven't watched the revival. Jellyman (talk) 09:47, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Jellyman there are several references in both series defining a general location in Doncaster. I'll have to check these though before making any amendments. 90.249.6.186 (talk) 15:58, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
The Pilot Episode
editI just watched the Pilot episode and I think Sheila Brennan plays Nurse Gladys Emmanuel in that (only). Keith Chegwin pops in for a ZOOM lolly.(90.164.50.80 (talk) 15:29, 17 August 2021 (UTC))
