I suspect the proposed merger with webmaster, along with citation tag and "poor quality article" reference were malicious actions by 203.208.102.224 as they occurred after I reverted that user's vandalism of Sydney gang rapes and Bilal Skaf. They would have come here via a link on my user page. See the admin comments from that time at User_talk:203.208.102.224. Proposed merge of Web producer

I have read the descriptions for both Online Producer as well as Web Producer. As a Web Producer myself, I see strong contrast in both areas. Although Web Producers are responsible for having knowledge of the technology being carried out by engineers as well as its possibilities or limitations, the main work of the Web Producer is to "keep things moving" efficiently, effectively, creatively and diplomatically. They must be able to be constantly re prioritizing throughout the day, keeping each project on time and flowing. They also have to have working knowledge of creative process and applications as well. All this plus SIA and content development....

Agree with merge, though it may be a tough rewrite. I think online producer could be expanded and the definition broadened to include web producer. I don't think there's enough difference betweeen "web" and "online" to justify separate articles. I think the two articles as they stand represent different perspectives. Online producer describes the job more from the perspective of delivering traditional media content online, while web producer is more to do with delivering a pure online product. Merge of Web Producer & Online Producer

As a web producer I agree that Due to the two being fundamentally the same thing, the two articles should be merged. Online Producers who produce content have a different skill set than those Online Producers who actually lead the functional design,development and delivery of an overall website. A Web Producer (as the name states) coordinates and oversees production for Web/Online related initiatives. This doesn't merely mean managing a website. The area's of responsibilities clearly differ to those of a web master.

Discussion on article statements

I opt to modify the following statements: An online producer oversees the making of content for websites. Online producers are sometimes called content producers or online editors. An online producer oversees the production of online initiatives. A content manager, web content writer, online editors or content producers oversee making of content for websites.

The online producer's responsibility is usually to create, edit and arrange the text, video, audio, images and other materials that may be included on a website. Online producers define and maintain the character of a website, as opposed to running it from a technical standpoint. Create, edit and arrange the text, video, audio, images and other materials is normally the task of a web designer. An Online producer coordinates the production of these assets with webdesigners or other creatives.

Many online producers have a background in journalism, or continue to work in journalism as online producers. For example, in radio or television, an online producer may work closely with an executive producer to meet a broadcast show's online needs. I think the term producer is often confused with editor or writer. Content editing, writing and content management is one element in a production process, which an online producer oversees.

Clarifying online and Web

As a Web producer with 10 years experience, I support the notion that Online Producer should replace Web Producer.

When the World Wide Web was the primary online medium, the term Web producer made sense. Now that non-Web experiences are being produced online, I recommend that the term Online Producer replace Web producer throughout the article, with the clarification that a Web experience is wholly-contained within the definition of Online.

That said, both terms are in use, so what is the Wikipedia process for referencing two similar terms? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thecompass (talk • contribs) 20:58, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Explanation of edits made

I have rearranged the order of the page in such a way as to break it up into three sections: the general introduction and information of the term, annual pay, and skills and educational requirements. I did this because it now makes the page easier to read and keeps it organized. I removed the original second paragraph and replaced it with information from an outside source. I have also cited this source in the article.

I did keep some of the original text from the second paragraph, but I moved it to the third paragraph because it was more relevant to the topic of the third paragraph than the second. In the third paragraph, I also added more information on the technical responsibilities of an online producer and cited an outside source for the information. I also added links for the terms “CSS” and “HTML” as they are specific technical terms that some readers may not know.

I did not change much of the fourth paragraph other than rewording some sentences and moving the information up on the page to go under the appropriate section. As for the fifth paragraph, I did not edit any of the information; I just moved the entire thing down to ensure that the article transitions smoothly.

I added the “Annual Pay” and “Skills and Educational Requirements” sections because I felt that this was important information for readers to know. I also added citations for the outside sources from which I gathered the information. In the “educational requirements” section, I kept a paragraph of the original text relevant to the topic. However, I was not able to find a source for the information. I also added links for the terms “journalism,” design,” and “marketing” since there are aspects of all of them that are important to the job requirements, which means that readers may wish to know more about these subjects as a whole.

In the “annual pay” section, I added a link to the term “USD” as some people may not know what it means, especially outside of the United States. I wanted to make it clear that the salary estimates listed are for jobs in the United States. I also went through and fixed continuity errors in the original text. In some places, it used the term “online producer,” and in others, it used “web producer,” so I changed all of them to say “online producer,” as that is the name of the article.  Finally, I added a reference list to the article with citations and links to the sources that I used to keep from posting plagiarized materials.--K188 (talk) 07:54, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
