- Obi Wan, Luke Skywalker's Jedi trainer in the Star Wars saga is an anagram of Oniwabanshū.
I have commented out the above statement from the article, rather than removing it completely. Apart from failing to cite a source, my chief issue with the statement is that it is not an anagram. A word or phrase does not qualify as an anagram merely becuse it contains some of the same letters and may sound vaguely similar; any more than "midichlorian" is an anagram of "mitochondria". - Tenmiles 00:56, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

- You want citations on an article about ninjas, a group of people that historians argue may have not even existed and who little hard proof of exists? Even the Ninja Black outfit thing is probably from plays (where people in black suits were considered to not be there and ignored but would do things like be the wind or mystical junk). Good luck with that. Personally I doubt the other thing, Lucas (and this is fact stuff that hes admitted to over the years) just grabbed a Japanese sounding name, Obi Wan was originally supposed to be Toshiro Mifune, whos role in The Hidden Fortress, is what Obi Wan's was based off of (much of A New Hope is taken from The Hidden Fortress, specifically the characters). Other unsourced info about the name Obi Wan, an Obi is a type of Japanese belt, Wan is Japanese for "bow wow" (barking noise), apparently, Wan also means 1000 (in Chinese) and is a Chinese last name, so either Obi Wan means he had alot of belts or Lucas flipped a coin between it and Lee. - Yes, I realize all of that, but people have to be getting this stuff from SOMEWHERE, whether they may just be completely making it up or not, there is (probably) some research here or there. At least that way I could decide for myself whether to trust the sources or not, this way, I can only just guess.
- At least citations about the very subject of this article would be nice, I googled it, and all I got was a pretty dubious GeoCities page for it. This whole thing could be invented by whoever started this article.
- Also, some of that scholarly debate would have a nice place here as well, WITH citations. Fallenangei (talk) 02:49, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Proper title? edit
This is showing up in all my JA sources as お庭番 (oniwaban), i.e. with no shū on the end. See w:ja:御庭番 as an example. Would anyone object to moving this article to Oniwaban? -- Eiríkr Útlendi | Tala við mig 04:15, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
