Please include that Tom Fletcher from boy band Mcfly wrote the song 'I Want' that features on One Direction's album 'Up All Night' this is only fair as artists Kelly Clarkson and Ed Sheeran have been given credit.

They were also featured on Daybreak, on Niall's 18th birthday. This is their most noteable feature on Breakfast television. — Preceding unsigned comment added by XJooeyx1D (talkcontribs) 10:26, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Of course they haven't released a single or any music, but they are very notable, released autobiographies and a huge fanbase. Don't you think they should have their own articles? 82.46.152.122 (talk) 11:36, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Redirect or article?

I have just reverted the edit of 13:39, 31 July 2011 by User:AnemoneProjectors, changing this article to a redirect for a second time. According to the guidelines at Wikipedia:Deletion_policy#Redirection it was fine to do this once, but it should not have been changed to a redirect a second time:

"Sometimes an unsuitable article may have a title that would make a useful redirect. In these cases, deletion is not required; any user can boldly redirect to another article. If the change is disputed, an attempt should be made on the talk page to reach a consensus before restoring the redirect."

In other words, since the change made is disputed, then to change this article into a redirect (effectively deleting it) then it is necessary to establish a consensus here on the talk page first.

So, for my part I believe the article meets the guidelines set out at WP:Notability (music). In particular, it meets:

  • Clause 1 ("Has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable and are independent from the musician or ensemble itself") - lots of coverage in the national newspapers.
  • Clause 9 ("Has won or placed in a major music competition.") - they finished third on last year's X Factor.

I would also take note of WP:Articles for deletion/Eoghan Quigg, which is in a similar position (third place X Factor candidate, discussion before he released any records). Although the deletion was hotly debated, it was in the end closed as a keep. Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 09:02, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Would you really like articles about every single X Factor finalist? They could all satisfy both clauses. That's why we decided, BY CONSENSUS, to ignore clause 9 in these cases, as these articles would be unnecessary until such time as a finalist had become notable for some other reason. This applies to One Direction. I'm sure Quigg isn't the only article to have been up for AFD, I am sure others have not survived. Stacey Solomon did not have an article until she won I'm A Celebrity..., not even during the time she was on the show. Other finalists have only had an article when they had a second reason for notability, excluding Jedward because they had MASSIVE amounts written about them during the series, more than any other finalist in the show's history, and Cher Lloyd, whose creation I continued to dispute, but could not go against consensus in the end, plus her single is out now so there's little point sending her article to AFD. The list entries for all the finalists satisfy GNG, so we should always wait until a contestant becomes notable for a second thing, outside of just reporting that someone is due to have a musical career. –anemoneprojectors– 14:04, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
No, I wouldn't have an article for every X Factor contestant because most don't satisfy the criteria for being notable outside of the reality format. However, One Direction are clearly more than that. Eight months on from the X Factor, everyone has heard of them, they have appeared on Alan Carr chatty man, their Facebook page has 612,000 fans. The list goes on. So rather than applying arbitrary rules for X Factor contestants, which are themselves already in contradiction with the WP:Notability (music) rules, we should use common sense.
Personally I am no fan of 1D - in a format which already specialises in manufactured pop, they are manufactured-squared, due to being just an amalgamation of those who failed as solo artists. But WP is not about our personal preferences, it's about reflecting the world at large. And in the world at large they are very notable. Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 20:12, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
The article as it stands right now doesn't really demonstrate their notability outside of The X Factor. A TV interview doesn't really add to that, neither does the number of Facebook fans. I personally think we should wait until close to the release of their single. At the moment, it's a lot of blank information and a list of X Factor performances, which, to be honest, is just filler material. –anemoneprojectors– 11:33, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

One Direction are launching a new mobile phone. I would suggest that since the site already highlights an affiliation with the Pokemon brand, this project is equally relevant. I would just suggest a sentence like this somewhere:

'In September 2011, One Direction were revealed to be launching a new mobile phone with Nokia for sale from October'. You could use the following link as a source.

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150303219636523.343179.143841031522&type=1

If more detail was desired you could use the quote Liam provided: Liam Payne said: "Our fans are always on their phones, so we thought this would be a great thing to do. It's the first time fans have had a chance to have a phone customised by their favourite band."

Editing Request: 13 May 2012

Can we have a part about Paul Higgins in the article. He is the tour manager for the band and many Directioners will agree this needs to be added. Also possibly a paragraph about Baby Lux and Josh Devine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ecolectic (talkcontribs) 22:31, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but since when is a band's tour manager considered a relevant individual for an encyclopedia article about that band?Would Higgins be considering notable, on his own? My initial answer would be no. StrikerforceTalk Review me! 02:07, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

excessive gushing removed, unfortunately restored

I tried to eliminate the accumulation of fan trivia in the article, but, unfortunately, my edit was immediately reverted without discussion. Apparently, some editors feel that information about tattoos, baby carriages, and teen girlfriends is crucial to our understanding of the band. Personally, I'd rather get rid of the Tiger Beat feel to the article and return to being an encyclopedia.—Kww(talk) 14:21, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Isn't tiger beat filled with gossip and speculation unlike the sections. th epart about malik as a child gives more background and detail of him, relationships should stay as relationships are always cited see Taylor Swift#Personal life - Katy Perry#Personal life just because their teens you don't add it Payne as been in relationship for almost 2 years now. Influences should stay period, see Madonna, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga why would you remove that -- it is all sourced and the tattoos Rihanna's article cites it why cant his section cite it AdabowtheSecond (talk) 19:03, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
Yes, it's full of gossip, such as detailed listings of tattoos and excitement over romantic involvement. None of these things is particularly meaningful in the context of an article about the band. The sourcing for these events is generally from very fannish sources as well. It demeans the article to include it.—Kww(talk) 20:46, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
kww yes i think the article shoud about the band like the take that, coldplay, the beatles articles but they do not individual article therefore i think its okay to document AdabowtheSecond (talk) 21:58, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
  • I have removed some of the redundant and unnecessary information. I would consider "disruptive editing" if the edits are reverted. This is an encyclopedia, not a fansite. Till 08:14, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Till for helping the section looks better now much appreciated sometimes its like i'm the only one editing their pages anywho thanks, it should stay like this AdabowtheSecond (talk) 18:42, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Individual pages

Shouldn't all five members have individual pages by now? They are certainly notable enough. Even the Jonas Brothers have three pages. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:22, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Every time it has happened, they have been deleted by consensus. They are not notable as individuals, only as part of the group. –anemoneprojectors– 13:09, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
This makes no sense. Surely we can agree that Harry Styles is one of the most notable teenagers on the planet at the moment? Certainly more so than about 99% of the people born during and after 1992 for whom we do have entries? I am not necessarily saying they all should get entries (though I think they should), but Styles, who gets so much media coverage, seems pretty obvious. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 18:40, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
No, because he hasn't done anything notable enough outside of the group. If they should ever have solo careers then yes maybe we can consider his own page then, but until then no.--5 albert square (talk) 21:42, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
The thing about the Jonas Brothers is that they've gone onto to do separate/solo projects. I don't believe the members of One Direction have done anything else outside the band, so I think WP:1E would apply here. - JuneGloom Talk 21:47, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Are you saying that Harry Styles is less notable than Patrick Aaltonen, Godwin Ababaki, and Nigina Abduraimova? Those are the first three matches in Category:1994 births. I find it impossible to believe that the answer is "Yes". The Jonas Brothers had separate entries long before they did anything outside of their band. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 06:54, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
Can I get an amen styles and others are more notable big time rush, maroon 5, coldplay (except for adam levine and chris martin) members they all have individual pages BTW - they are way more popular than all of those mentioned can you even cite their names (i can't), they don't have instant media coverage every single day - one direction members have been victim of being so popular in individual page kind of way because how the hell can big time rush members get their they have not any work outside big time rush - wikipedia in my opinion should work on their guidelines AdabowtheSecond (talk) 21:33, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
You are 100% right. But it's not gonna happen. Unreal7 (talk) 23:56, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
Big Time Rush member Kendall was in a band prior and James was on iCarly among other things. I know this just off the top of my head. Only Harry would receive one IF White Eskimo did something significant prior to him leaving for X-Factor. We have agreed that we cannot create individual pages until they individually do something outside of the band. Trenton Davis (talk) 20:53, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

===Early life===

Village Holmes Chapel, where Styles was raised and worked in a bakery on Saturdays.[2]

Harold Edward "Harry" Styles (born 1 February 1994, in Evesham, Worcestershire)[3], is from village Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, England and a former pupil at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School, a state comprehensive school.[4] Born to mother Anne and father Des, he has an older sister, Gemma, he was seven when their parents divorced; his mother later remarried to Robin Twist.[5] Regarding his parents divorce he said, "that was quite a weird time. I remember crying about it. I didn’t really get what was going on properly, I was just sad that my parents wouldn't be together any more." Following the divorce, Styles, his older sister and his mother moved further out into the Cheshire countryside. He said he had his first "actual girlfriend" when he was 12. At the age of 12 he moved back to Holmes Chapel. That was when his mother met his step dad Robin Twist. Styles said he was "really pleased" when Twist proposed to his mother.

As a child he loved singing, noting Elvis Presley and The Beatles as his influences.[6] Styles was the lead singer for the band White Eskimo with band members lead guitarist Haydn Morris, bass guitarist Nick Clough and drummer Will Sweeny.[7] They had once entered a local Battle of the Bands, which they won.[8]

===Music career===
====The X Factor====

In 2010, Styles auditioned for The X Factor with "Isn't She Lovely", receiving positive comments from two of the three judges, with Louis Walsh having doubts on whether he was ready to progress in the competition. At boot camp, he sang "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" before being rejected and put into One Direction.

Styles came up with band name One Direction, because he thought it would sound good when X Factor announcer Peter Dickson read their name out on the live shows. Louis Tomlinson added "Harry texted us to ask what we thought and it was one of those were we all just said, 'Yes' straight away. We all entered the competition with one thing in mind and that was to go to the top, so it worked. And it can be abbreviated to 1D!"[9] Styles said that The X Factor gave him a lot more confidence.[10]

====One Direction====

After the final of seventh series of The X Factor member Zayn Malik said, that One Direction "would definitely continue on as a band". Styles, Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne signed a record deal with Syco Records. On being signed Styles said: On being signed Styles said: "We wanted to win and coming third was a big disappointment. So to find out we were signed was incredible. Simon Cowell was telling you your life was about to change! It was weird. Coming from our first audition to being signed by Syco is a huge journey".[11] The band has had international fame and success, releasing their debut album Up All Night, in 2011.

===Influences===

As a child he loved singing, noting Elvis Presley as one of his influences. He cites the artist for his musical beginnings. "The first song I knew all the words to was Girl Of My Best Friend by Elvis. My dad introduced me to his music and when I got given a karaoke machine, I recorded a load of Elvis tracks."[12] Styles also cites more current music by Foster the People, Coldplay and Kings of Leon. "We want to have a little bit heavier guitars, bigger drums, more of a live feel, because that’s what we like doing," Styles says for their next album, though he says that shouldn’t be misinterpreted to mean the group is going “grungier". Because we are 18 years old, it's important that we like what we’re doing as well,: says Styles. "It wouldn’t be good if we weren’t enjoying what we’re doing, and we are."[13] Styles says that he often looks to Coldplay front man Chris Martin for inspiration when performing on stage.[14]

Styles also states that The Beatles had a profound influence on him growing up, his father would play their music. "I still listen to their music over and over again. "They are absolute icons and an inspiration", he says.[15]

===Personal life===

Styles and Tomlinson are often referred to as "Larry Stylinson"

Styles states that he likes being naked, citing it as "very liberating, I feel so free."[16] Styles briefly dated English television presenter Caroline Flack, which caused widespread media controversy over their fifteen year age gap.[17]

Styles currently resides with band member Louis Tomlinson in North London.[18] Due to his friendship with Tomlinson, they are to referred to the portmanteau "Larry Stylinson" by their fans. Styles spoke to Vevo lift on the latter saying, "the fans call me and Louis Larry Stylinson.. because we get on so well. Since we started at the X Factor house, me and Louis had always said that we wanted to move in together. And that was pretty much it. It just sort of happened."[19] Styles is also good friends with recording artist Ed Sheeran.[20] They are compared with many kpop groups such as big bang and shinee. But we all know that big bang and shinee are a lot more talented, handsome, and sexy. ♥ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.25.100.135 (talk) 03:34, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

===Early life===

Before The X Factor, Payne had once performed in front of a 26,000 crowd at a Wolverhampton Wanderers' football match.[1]

Liam James Payne (born 29 August 1993), is from Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England, born three weeks early to mother Karen and father Geoff,[2] he has two older sisters, Ruth and Nicola.[3]

Until the age of four Payne had regular tests done in hospital, doctors noticed one of his kidneys was scarred and dysfunctional, to help cope with the pain he had 32 injections in his arm in the morning and evening as a child.[4]

He described himself as a "naughty boy at school", at school he tried for teams, eventually trying out for the cross-country team, coming first "From then on I was training all the time and getting up at 6am to run for miles. At the age of 12 they put me in the school's under-18s team." Payne was bullied in school and took up boxing lessons, saying he "needed to find a way to defend myself, I was, at 12 years old, fighting the 38-year-old trainer. I broke my nose, had a perforated eardrum and I was always coming home with a bruised, puffy face. But it gave me confidence. I got pretty good over the next couple of years."[5] He was a music technology student at City of Wolverhampton College.[6]

===Music career===
====The X Factor====

Payne had auditioned in 2008 to The X Factors fifth series when he was fourteen. He reached judges' houses, however, Simon Cowell thought he was not ready for the competition and asked him to come back in two years. In 2010, Payne came back and auditioned again singing "Cry Me a River", receiving a standing ovation from the audience and Simon Cowell. At boot camp, he sang "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" before being rejected and put into One Direction. On the experience, Payne says: "Normally when you put together a band they have some time to go away and do development but we had to do that on a live competition, in front of 20 million people. If you make a mistake in front of an audience like that, you get voted out. We had no room for error whatsoever. We had to grow up very, very fast."[7]

====One Direction====

After the final of seventh series of The X Factor band member Zayn Malik said, they would definitely continue on as a band. Payne, Malik, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson signed a record deal with Syco Records. The band have had international fame and success, releasing their debut album Up All Night, in 2011.

===Influences===

He cites Justin Timberlake as a "major influence". Payne revealed that he would choose the vocal abilities of Timberlake, if he could change his vocals voice.[8] He as well as other members of One Direction further notes artists such as Bruno Mars, as a "dream collaborator".[9] Payne says he draws inspiration from Take That member Gary Barlow when performing.[10]

===Personal life===

Regarding his one functional kidney Payne said, "I have to be careful not to drink too much, even water, and I have to keep myself as healthy as possible."[11] Payne is currently in a relationship with dancer, Danielle Peazer.[12] They met on the X Factor in 2010. Peazer and Payne have been a relationship ever since. The backing dancer for The Saturdays and Jessie J has received death threats and other forms of cyber bullying on social networking site Twitter, due to her relationship with Payne.[13] He referred to it saying, "I think its horrible how people can such nasty things and not even think of how it effects people".[14] In an interview with Now Magazine, Payne said "Danielle's amazing, All the boys love her - in a friendly way. Lately I've been able to spend a lot of time with her. It's hard when we go away, but she's so good about everything." On settling down Payne said, "If possible, with Danielle".[15]

Total records sale worldwide

one direction have sold over 4.2 million records worldwide according to http://www.musicreview.co.za/2012/03/23/one-direction-become-first-british-group-to-debut-at-1-in-the-us-with-debut-album/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anasrana9 (talkcontribs) 18:03, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

be more on the point are you referring to references which lead to external websites- after every sentence[23] Is that what you mean. Or is it One Direction#External links because other article cite them to like Taylor Swift#External links and Lady Gaga#External links. Why are they not relevant; it makes it easier for editors to find info AdabowtheSecond (talk) 21:16, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

It has some wrong information. It spelt Zayn's middle name 'Javadd'. Correctly, it is 'Jawaad' by birth and changed to 'Jahaad'. Thank you for your consideration.Macey.Horan (talk) 17:34, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

You are the 564985649085 request saying the same thing.
  • 1. you have not provided a reliable source (twitter, facebook, fanfictions, fanwebsites, youtube, tumblr, books are NOT reliable sources)
  • 2. his middle name has always been of speculation and someone once just said its "jawaad" and people like you just have ingrained so far deep in to your brain (without actually having a reliable source or confirmation from his family or zayn himself)
  • 3. All the birth names are sourced with external sources from uk ancestry archives. so no wikipedia is not changing his middle name
hope to have helped you AdabowtheSecond (talk) 18:14, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
  Not done: AdabowtheSecond is correct: you need to provide a reliable source. Just to clarify two points, however: books are by no means unreliable sources, and ancestry sites are not necessarily reliable sources. Rivertorch (talk) 19:00, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
i don't like the use of books since its not really verifiable; its more okay if it was coming from a established user used it to source but teenpoper who never actually opened said book. just using it to get the info they want added AdabowtheSecond (talk) 20:23, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Zayn Malik - Muslim; should it be added

so according to this article - Zayn Malik's arabic/muslim tweet (which already has been deleted by their managment i guess) - caused quite a stir should the content of aforementioned article be mentioned in his biography section (One Direction#Zayn Malik). Thoughts? AdabowtheSecond (talk) 14:22, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

The tweet was done in 2011, not 2012; he also retweeted several tweets written in Urdu in 2011, and Ramadan greetings. Tomlinson also tweeted in 2010 about celebrating Eid with Malik during the X Factor. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aimmyarrowshigh (talkcontribs) 14:15, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Disreputable sourcing used in uncited change 13 June 2012

Neither Styles nor Tomlinson has confirmed the purchase of houses and the "newspapers" that propagated the information are tabloids only (the Sun and the Daily Mail), both of which have given false information on both men numerous times. As of early June 2012, both Tomlinson and Styles verbally say in radio interviews they still live together. The information should be reinstated until either Styles, Tomlinson, One Direction's management, or more reputable sources give confirmation of the split. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aimmyarrowshigh (talkcontribs) 14:08, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

Because of the reports we have removed them living together - but because they have not confirmed that they bought said houses we have not added that they bought houses simple as that AdabowtheSecond (talk) 17:14, 20 June 2012 (UTC)

I have placed it in the One Direction#See also section now like Lady Gaga#See also article AdabowtheSecond (talk) 13:19, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
  • References: Ref. 2 - This uses different date format than other. This uses 2012-05-11, but others would be like this May 11, 2012. Please stick to one method format for references
  • References: Ref. 4 & 7 & 15 & 97, various others - # 4 is italic for Digital Spy and # 7, # 15 isn't. Please make it italic on # 7. Again, stick to one method format.
  • References: Ref. 14 - Same ref uses different method for each part. Stick to one!
  • References: Various - Please stick to one method
  • References: Ref. 112 - Digitalspy.co.uk → Digital Spy

Again, stick to one format. Good work otherwise. On hold. TBrandley 23:24, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

I'm will now work on the refs, thanks for your time AdabowtheSecond (talk) 13:19, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
  • The review is not complete. There are many other problems regarding the references. Till 06:41, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
    • Thank you for noting. There are tons including:
  • References: Don't need area for "Sources for Edwards and Malik relationship"
  • References: Don't need area for "Sources for Payne and Peazer relationship"
  • References: Don't need area for "Sources for Tomlinson and Calder relationship"
  • References: Ref. 123 - Make Digital Spy italic like this Digital Spy
  • References: Various ref needs linking in section
  • References: Ref. 161 - "BBC - Harry Styles has got the X Factor in Holmes Chapel" → "Harry Styles has got the X Factor in Holmes Chapel"
  • References: Various formatting. Please stick to one. Please check for more than just above.

Thanks, TBrandley 16:24, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

I have converted all the refs AdabowtheSecond (talk) 20:51, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
now there are two kinds of refs for example;

^ Sophie Freeman (19 November 2010). "Now Treyc Cohen snubbed by X Factor for £100,000 tour... but reject Aiden Grimshaw IS invited". UK: Daily Mail. Retrieved 19 November 2010. ^ ^ "No Change Of Direction". Chart track. 7 October 2012. Retrieved 31 March 2012.

this is because when a article/ref doesn't give an author in the article the date goes; "7 October 2012. Retrieved 31 March 2012." but when a an author is given its like this; "Sophie Freeman (19 November 2010). "Now Treyc Cohen snubbed by X Factor for £100,000 tour... but reject Aiden Grimshaw IS invited". UK: Daily Mail. Retrieved 19 November 2010."

  • Most of the references are missing publishers. Digital Spy shouldn't be in italics, it's a website. Till 01:50, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
is that necessary Katy Perry article passed GA and their are barely publishers given AdabowtheSecond (talk) 02:26, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
The Katy Perry article might have to be reassessed. The references are a mess. Till 02:33, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
I might go into a hefty denial right now spent hours converting refs and now this *sigh eating chocolate ice cream now*, how long do is still have to add publishers and all AdabowtheSecond (talk) 02:53, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
  • Ref. #1 --> Publisher is Intent Media.
  • Ref. #2 --> Daily Mirror in italics, and Trinity Mirror shouldn't be in italics. Also, you can remove the 'London' bit. It's not needed.
  • Ref. #3 --> Work is Digital Spy (it shouldn't be in italics) and publisher is Hachette Filipacchi Médias. ---> it isn't Hachetter anymore as per wiki page "On 1 August 2011, ownership of Hachette UK was sold to Hearst Magazines UK".
  • Ref. #4 --> Publisher is Wenner Media.
  • Ref. #6 --> Publisher is Media Wales
  • Ref #7 --> same as #3
  • Ref #8 --> STV shouldn't be in italics, and publisher is STV Group.
  • Ref #9 --> Link The Guardian, and the publisher is Guardian Media Group.
  • Ref #10 --> Link The Sun, and publisher is News International.

See what I mean? The references really need work. I'm not going to go through every single one. Btw the article needs to be trimmed down to a readable size. Till 03:04, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

the former i have just trimmed severly today what do yuo suggest needs trimming. AdabowtheSecond (talk) 03:23, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
You have to remove most of the information about Muslim in Zayn's section. It's not relevant, and violates WP:WWIN. The same goes for Liam getting bullied. Till 03:26, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
"Kari Huus from msnbc.com, felt it is, "likely to alienate some conservative Muslims and [that it] has already sparked the wrath of at least one well known anti-Muslim conservative in the US." Nevertheless Wajahat Ali, a San Francisco-based screenwriter who is a practicing Muslim, felt Malik represents progress. "It is empowering for Muslims worldwide to see the success of a pop star who also happens to be Muslim. It sends that message that a person can be respected for their talent, and their "Musliminess" will not exclude them from the public arena and culture," said Ali. "It's also good business. You have a Muslim in a five-person boy band… and you have captured an audience of Muslim girls worldwide." Zudhi Jasser, an American Muslim who frequently warns of Islamic radicalization, commented, "I would say all the power to him to be respectful to his faith and be proud of it," said Jasser. But he also notes that conservative Islamists would likely frown on many aspects of Malik's behavior — his smoking, tattoos, ear piercings, and song lyrics — that "while saccharine — probably would not be seen to glorify God." The screenwriter said that even if more conservative Muslims do not agree with Malik's behavior, he could help expand the artistic boundaries for young Muslims. "What we have seen in the last 10 years is that you can be an artist who is Muslim and can be practicing and doing art that is inspired by your beliefs, but does not have to be overtly Islamic or using religious language," he said. "A guy like Zayn Malik can really help open those minds and convey that as a generation we are moving ahead."[149]" This whole thing has to go. Commentary from editors isn't needed here. • "saying he "needed to find a way to defend myself, I was, at 12 years old, fighting the 38-year-old trainer. I broke my nose, had a perforated eardrum and I was always coming home with a bruised, puffy face. But it gave me confidence. I got pretty good over the next couple of years."
  • "In 2011, he commented, "I went and told my parents and my teachers, but it [the bullying] didn't stop so I had to sort it out myself. I was in year eight and they were sixth-formers. I got this guy I knew, who was in his early twenties, to pretend to be my big brother and pick me up from school."[150] In 2012, in an interview with The New Zealand Herald on advocating how to deal with bullying, Payne stated, "you have to tell someone", adding "you have to stand up to it, you make yourself a target, you make yourself easy to be picked on and just let things happen, that's what happens, but when you do something, you're active about it, you make sure something's being done about it then it will slowly stop."[151]"

We have sources for both names - do you have a reliable source for his supposed birth name. Twitter, facebook, fanfictions, fanwebsites, youtube, and finally tumblr are not reliable sources. AdabowtheSecond (talk) 16:56, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Would you a link or a news article where he specifically referred to as Harry "Harold" Styles.?--109.232.72.49 (talk) 18:57, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
You need a link stemming from websites like MTV, Digital Spy, Mail Online, Capital FM, Music Week which states that his birth name is Harold not Harry. Wikipedia does not permit Original research. AdabowtheSecond (talk) 20:43, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

X Factor/Forming

I think it's better to have a separate section for that. It doesn't matter that it only lasted one year, fact is it's a separate era from "Up All Night, touring and breakthrough". Not to mention that section is so huge now it's practically unreadable.--Krystaleen 06:54, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

i'm planning to re struct AdabowtheSecond (talk) 22:43, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Versions:

The second version is better and yes 1 year does make a difference, sub-sections should not be handed out to one year. For example see Britney Spears page they list for example two albums in the same sub-section even though its not the same era In the Zone was a complete different direction and musical style then Britney (album), it marked Spears taking creative control and breaking away from her previous work that doesn't mean they should have different subsections. The X Factor bit is only one paragraph. AdabowtheSecond (talk) 14:31, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

I like this one better http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=One_Direction&oldid=502062419 but the "2010–12: Up All Night, touring and breakthrough" should be "2011-12" I think because it started in January 2011 not 2010. Oh and I'm not aware of any rule that says sub-sections should not be handed out to one year, can you point me to it? That Britney page isn't the best example imo. Those are two different albums but similar era. XFactor and a debut album is very different and very significant.--Krystaleen 15:35, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Do you see ever a sub-section for only one year no, a subsection should cover various years. I never said it was a guideline or rule. I'm giving my opinion just like you are now. The X Factor bit is so short. An era "refers to a long period of history." One year is not long 3 years is. AdabowtheSecond (talk) 18:45, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, the way you said it made it seem like you were taking it from a rule. But yes there are articles with a section with just one year, look here for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_West or this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherry_Poppin%27_Daddies#Soul_Caddy_.282000.29 what I'm saying is that the forming/early beginning of the band is almost always a separate era, and especially in this case it's the X Factor, it's an entirely separate era from debut album after they've left the show and not to mention the section is too big now. Why lump everything together if you can break them apart appropriately?--Krystaleen 03:57, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
I have reformatted AdabowtheSecond (talk) 16:25, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
It looks much better now, nice job!--Krystaleen 15:35, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

2012-present

2012-present because with only 2012 they could have stopped working thats why 2012-present AdabowtheSecond (talk) 21:38, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

You're wrong. "-present" refers to the year the section is about. Statυs (talk) 21:47, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
It's still 2012. 2012 is the present. It's not the past and it is not the future. It is the present. And since Wikipedia is not a CRYSTALBALL, "2012–present" violates such thing. If they stop working, it's still 2012. MusicFreak7676 TALK! 21:48, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
