Terrible!

God! This article is even worse than New Parliament House, Canberra! Something needs to be done, and if nowelse then I will do it. How can this; such an important article be in a state of such dis-repair?

Same goes with Parliament House, Canberra.

I too thought the previous article rather poor so added some detail, but am tentative about the formatting as I am a neophyte. Happy for further changes/work to be done.

9th May

This building was opened on 9 May 1927. Was this date chosen because the 1st Parliament was opened on 9 May 1901, or was it pure coincidence? I know that 9 May was deliberately chosen for the New Parliament House in 1988 because the date had already been used twice before and it made a nice sort of continuity. But I'm interested in the second 9th May, in 1927. Accident or design? -- JackofOz 22:39, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

This is pure design. The 9th of May was the date of the opening of all three of Australia's parliaments - in 1901 for the Parliament in Melbourne (even though the building was already there, the Federal Parliament had not sat there before), in 1927 for OPH and 1988 for Parliament House. May 9 has a very special significance in Parliamentary history.

No, you have completely misinterpreted my question. I am asking about 1927. I mentioned 1988 only because the 9 May tradition had already been established by then, and they just continued the tradition. But back in 1927, there was no such tradition. Scope

A clear distinction needs to be made between the building and the agency. The Executive Agency is officially called Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House.[1] 203.7.140.3 (talk) 04:11, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Change of Name

The title of this wiki page is completely incorrect and should be changed, or a new page created.

Since 2009 the name "Old Parliament House" is fairly irrelevant. It is merely the name of the building, and the main tenant is the Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD).

MoAD should be given its own page, or the entry for Old Parliament House edited accordingly to acknowledge the new use for the building.

The former agency of Old Parliament House was different to the new MoAD, and the wiki page should reflect this.

Height

Now you point it out, it does seem unlikely. Perhaps it was intended to be 107 feet? Maybe @Stickee: can help as that user added the infobox with that height. Kerry (talk) 14:37, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

Oh dear, I copied the infobox from Parliament House, Canberra and forgot to delete the height field. Removed. Thanks for the head's up. Stickee (talk) 22:02, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

I contacted the Museum that operates from the building to ask them about the height. Their reply was "Thank you for your enquiry regarding the height of Old Parliament House. I have contacted both our Heritage and Facilities staff who consulted building plans and indicated that the building from ground level to the top of the Chamber roof is 18.5 metres. This does not include the flag pole." So I will put that as the height. Kerry (talk) 03:40, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
