Inaccuracies

I am disputing this article because facts about the Cherokee Outlet Land Run, which happened in 1893, are intertwined in this article, which should be about the opening of the Unassigned Lands in 1889. These are two completely different land rushes. As well, showing the picture from the 1893 Cherokee Outlet run confuses the matter even more. The Unassigned Lands were in central Oklahoma and didn't touch the Kansas border. They led to the establishment of Oklahoma City. Let me outline my issues with the article:

1. Most of the content of this article refers to the opening of the Cherokee Outlet opening, which happened in 1893. However, the article starts with:

The Oklahoma Land Race or the Cherokee Strip Land Run was a land run or land rush that took place on April 22, 1889.

On April 22, 1889, the Unassigned Lands were opened to white settlement.[1] The Unassigned Lands were not one-in-the-same with the Cherokee Outlet. The Cherokee Outlet run of 1893 is being conflated with the 1889 land run.

2. There is no such thing as the "Land Race." The opening of lands in Oklahoma Territory have always been referred to as "Land Runs." They have always been referred to as land runs.

3. The pictures shown with this article do not refer to the 1889 land run, with the possible exception of the last picture.

4. There is zero reference to the towns that sprung up during the 1889 land run, most notably Oklahoma City.

The best way to rectify this, in my opinion, would be to:

-- move the Cherokee Outlet Run of 1893 information into a new article

-- create a new article with a new title focusing solely on the Land Run of 1889 (i.e. the opening of the Unassigned Lands to settlement)

Also, the term Boomer is implied to mean the same thing as the term Sooner, which is not the case. This should be rectified in the rewrite.

• Both photos seem to be from the 1893 land run. Inaccuracies in other articles

The inaccuracies have worked themselves into other Wikipedia articles:

• The article on Far and Away (movie) claims the movie is about the 1889 Oklahoma land run, but imdb claims 1893 Cherokee Strip land run [2].
• The article on Cimarron (book) also links to this article and seems to confuse the subject a bit too.
• The article on events that took place on September 16 links to this article, but was refering to the 1893.
