Just asking

This earthquake just happened, and already has 180 known dead, 800 injured, and struck a wide area. How is it possible that it has been rated "low importance" on WikiProject Earthquakes? And rated so soon, before its full impact is known. I normally assume good faith, but this doesn't seem to make sense to me.Juneau Mike (talk) 17:17, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

Just pointing

• 1. Richter scale Focal Depth was 193 (Km) at 14:09:32 PST having its Epicenter with magnitude of 8.1. See the Official URL of Government of Pakistan here [1]. I request to modify the data accordingly.
• 2. Different tv channels in Pakistan have so far reported above 170 deaths and more than 1000 injured without estimation of loss of capital (property and holdings).Nannadeem (talk) 17:46, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

We have so many reliable sources reporting 7.5 magnitude, i only found one source saying Pakistan Meteorological Department estimated the magnitude to be 8.1. We cannot go with an estimation when we have tens of reliable sources saying otherwise. Sheriff (report) 17:51, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

I will rely on USGS data than of Pakistan Meteorological Department. USGS measured the quake's intensity at 7.5 not 8.1. And as for causalities, Dawn (newspaper) now reports that 200 killed in Pakistan alone. Have made changes accordingly. Offcourse the article is not stable yet as the death toll would climb as the time goes by because reportedly communications are down in much of the remote areas. --Saqib (talk) 17:54, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

I did not see the source before but since now i have seen, i do not have a problem going with any of those 7.5 or 8.1 as long as we include the source with it. 7.5 is a clear winner though because most sources report that. Sheriff (report) 18:52, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

Here is a link [2] which I think might be helpful to answering your query in very simple English. However, I am reproducing few lines and figures for general reference from Geo TV earthquake web portal:

Global warming section

Is it just me or does this section stick out like a sore thumb? What's it doing here? Do we just put an equivalent section in literally every earthquake article we have? That seems absurd. Feels much better suited to a standalone article along the lines of Effects of global warming on seismic activity, surely. Anyone else think it should be removed? Okay, it's significantly better as part of the background section, so thanks for whoever tidied that up. Still, I'm concerned about its inclusion full stop. The source says: "warning that melting glaciers will lead to an increasing number of earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions in unexpected places" and "People in northern climates [...] had better get ready for a few seismic events of their own, according to a growing number of prominent geologists." Nowhere in the article mentions the Himalayas specifically, and it makes no claim that the Himalayas would be an "unexpected place" for increased seismic activity, nor indeed that the Himalayas are part of the "northern climates". Does it not therefore fall under WP:OR, as someone is using its conclusions about places such as Canada to apply to an area not explicitly mentioned and which surely cannot qualify as an "unexpected place", given its history as a seismically active area?
