1994 qualifying?

edit

The article states "Australia beat Canada, then lost to Argentina in the Intercontinental Play-offs" for the 1994 qualifying. Surely Canada have always been in the CONCACAF group? So were there two inter-continental play-offs? Just doesn't seem to make sense the way it reads at the moment. If anyone knows and can clarify for me if I'm misunderstanding and / or change it in the artcile that would be great. Iancaddy 00:36, 16 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yep, there were two. Australia beat Canada and then lost to Argentina. --Robdurbar 07:36, 16 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

New Zealand switching to CONMEBOL

edit

Now that Australia is part of Asia (as for football); how big is the rumor that New Zealand plans to join CONMEBOL? If this happens, would the Oceania federation cease to exist? El Chompiras 20:03, 28 June 2006 (Central time)

  • Well, there are still relatively strong teams(for their size) in Oceania. (Tahiti, Solomon Islands, Vanatu for example). I doubt NZ would leave, as they now pretty much have a guarenteed chance at .5 spot. This is just my speculation but the smaller countries are probably glad because this gives them a slim opportunity to make it to the world cup. Falphin 22:52, 30 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

North America

edit

Associate members

edit

According to the OFC themselves, there are only 3 associate members. Palau and Micronesia may once have been associate members, but this no longer seems to be the case. In fact, Palau appears to be making overtures to join the East Asian Football Federation (following in the footsteps of the Northern Mariana Islands, who were also once listed as an OFC associate member). http://www.oceaniafootball.com/ofc/MemberAssociations/tabid/1016/language/en-US/Default.aspx — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcruic (talkcontribs) 02:48, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Size(s) of Confederations

edit

I recently changed the CONMEBOL page back to stating that it is the smallest confederation in terms of members (with 10), this page still says that the OFC is the smallest (though it has 11)...I assume whoever wrote this intended to say that it was the smallest confederation is terms of population(?) If so, that should be inserted into the introduction to avoid confusion. 72.204.35.27 (talk) 21:26, 29 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

See Also section

edit

Is it necessary to retain the text to the deleted "AFC-OFC Reorganization Proposal" article? The delete discussion pretty much concluded that the article was original research and was never a serious discussion among OFC, AFC, and FIFA. -- Jkudlick (talk) 07:48, 27 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Israel

edit

Isn't Israel a former member? Or what was their status? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:1812:6:DB00:9C82:8D52:3DE3:BB63 (talk) 17:28, 2 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

According to Israel Football Association article, it was not part of any confederation but it did play in OFC games during the 70s and 80s.--Countakeshi (talk) 22:22, 26 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Pitcairn Islands Football Team

edit

There is a source which proves that Pitcairn Islands do not have a football team,? http://oceaniafootball.npage.de/non-fifa/pitcairn-islands.html, which seems likely because there is only a 40-50 population of different gender, the same source says that Pitcairn Islands do not have an athlete, but what I don't get is that on the section where focuses on the part about the non-OFC members, nobody typed it that Pitcairn Islands doesn't have a football team, however I changed it now. Audi1merc2 (talk) 14:56, 18 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

The whole section about non-members is not needed, can't really see a use for it. There probably are 50 more islands with no team. -Koppapa (talk) 15:36, 18 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Relevance

edit

Would relevance be the lack of a guaranteed spot in the World Cup? Timeoin (talk) 09:23, 8 September 2017 (UTC) Timeoin (talk) 09:23, 8 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Non members

edit

There is an error in the section on non-members. Northern Mariana Islands are not a member of FIFA, so not all mentioned non-members are FIFA members in opposite to what is suggested.
