Kaiser Richmond No. 1 Yard

edit

Todd sold the contract and the yard to Kaiser in 1940, before any ships were built. Kaiser Richmond No. 1 Yard built all the ships. Why is Tood listed as the builder. I will wait for a reply before changing the page. Ref: [1] [2] Thank you, Telecine Guy (talk) 03:09, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Number built

edit

A review of the page history shows the page's originator, Mjroots, corrected the number built from 60 to 57. Since my experience is that this user does pretty thorough research my change back to 60, based on Colton's listings (Kaiser Permanente No. 1, Richmond CA and New England Shipbuilding, South Portland ME, also in my experience generally excellent as such compilations go, and other sources showing none of the contracted 60 cancelled with all delivered still has a question. What was the source for s subtraction of three vessels? I am hoping to pin down the precise reason for that earlier change and whether it is solid and specific enough to warrant discounting others. @Palmeira: - it would appear that my edit was in error. The navbox does indeed list 60 ships. The Mariners website list them (A-T, V &W). Mjroots (talk) 17:14, 11 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I know you do good checking and also know solid references such as DANFS, Colton, and even trade journals such as the Pacific Marine Review have blunders, we all do. I've found several in the last week so it is good to double check. These ships, particularly some of the innovations in yards (basin construction/launching for example) specifically built to build them and follow on Liberties is worth diverting from some other interest a while. Any thoughts on a new title? Even my first thought was perhaps someone had written something on ocean going ships until I took a look. Ocean type cargo ship? Ocean class cargo ship? Something a bit more descriptive. Palmeira (talk) 19:54, 11 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'm happy with the title as it is. They are part of a series with the Fort Ships, Liberty Ships, Park Ships and Victory Ships, which were all standardized designs in WWII, plus the Empire Ships, which were a hotch-potch of designs in British service. Mjroots (talk) 20:57, 11 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
In context of the series that sounds good. Palmeira (talk) 23:50, 11 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Ocean Hope

edit

A ship of this name is currently in service under either Panamanian or Marshallese registry. Its operator, a Greek concern was recently convicted of criminal environmental violations in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. The conviction was upheld by the Fourth Circuit. I came to this article looking for info on that ship. Can it be the same ship transferred to Poland during the war?
