That bothered me too, when I first saw it, but I don't think we can exclude an awareness campaign that could save people's lives, or a sponsoring group that hasn't yet been given the full acceptance that it deserves in a community that values diversity. There are other causes of AIDS besides gay sex, or straight sex, but both of those, taken together, are by far the most prevalent cause - and the use of condoms, along with other measures of safe sex, is by far the top preventative measure.

The color, pink, also links to, and provides additional awareness and support for, the "Race for the Cure" breast cancer campaign, showing solidarity with another movement.

So to me it seems good that we have it in, but if you don't want it to stand out so much, you could add other ways that the obelisk has been decorated, for other causes.

Naming

Just a question regarding consistency across articles. I see that this article is named and titled "Obelisk of Buenos Aires", which is a translation into English. Now, whenever I look for, say, Paris' Arc of Triumph, I find that not only the article is titled in French "Arc de Triomphe", but every reference in the article that points to some french-named structure, avenue or monument, is in French. It also happens with articles regarding other countries, such as the Plaza de Toros Las Ventas in Madrid. How about editing this and other articles (or not this one and yes other articles) so that a consistent naming policy can be achieved across Wikipedia? It personally feels like English speakers respect French culture and do not respect the Argentinian culture. Thanks, 200.51.92.142 (talk) 16:21, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

That's something you can do, yourself. But I'll see what I can do, at least with the article's title, after I finish translating the poem. It would be so super if we could get an English translation of that! My yahoo babelfish translation is this:

The Obelisk Where it had the kept city this sword of refulgente silver pulled out of a scabbard suddenly and to blue skies aimed? Now the glance can be sent it is satiated to walk crawling and penitente stone arrives towards the omnipotent Sun and to descend spiritualised. Really it needs a professional translation. But it still comes across as being inspirational.

Obelisk?

I'm not sure that this actually qualifies as an actual obelisk, despite its name. Its shape is that of an obelisk, but it's hollow and made of concrete. An actual obelisk is solid granite. I object. The term obelisk is about the shape, not about the construction material or the solid/hollowness of it. I refer you to the hollow Washington Monument made of marble, gneiss, and granite.
