The ACT Government public housing on George Street includes a community centre edit

The George Steet community center was in operation from before 2003 onto 2006 under the direction of elder residents in ACT Government Public Housing. Younger people in ACT Government Housing using the George Steet community center were the targets of almost daily attacks from a very small group of elder ACT Government Housing residents that suffer from dependency and Alcohol issues.

After many reports to authorities from the intoxicated elder ACT Government Housing residents in exchange for Informer cash payments, and physical assaults lead by elder ACT Government Housing residents; The ACT Government has provided funding for South Side Community Service and Directions ACT to take over operation of the Oaks Estate George Street community centre (for 2 part days each week). The ACT Government funding provided is used to educate a select group of people with substance dependency and intoxication issues - One lesson provided by elder residents is how to commit criminal damage and assult with the use of paid junkies/heavies, and get away with it by making false issues of blame (Blame the heat, Blame the Grog, etc).

ACT Policing are powerless to arrest or charge the elder residents who typically cause a public disturbance requiring police attendance at least once a year; Example, Police attended over 50 reported disturbances for 2004-2005; resulting in many younger people being incarcerated, or moved onto other ACT Government housing in Red Hill, Woden, Belconnen, and Civic [1]. As of 2008, the majority of Public Housing in George Street sits idle and un-used because of anti-social behavior from the few elder residents whom make claim of home ownership (without land title or deed). The anti-social behavior is endorced by the ACT Government that play a game of 'we can not understand your complaint' while the same Government seeks re-development of two housing blocks (typicly where tenancy is imposible to maintain because of anti-social behaviour) to support the Federal upgrades of Queanbeyan train station.

In 2001 the Government Housing was 35% but is being made match the Canberra average (10%) though the wide spread use of anti-social behaviour. A local liqure store provides alcohol 7 days a week; And is a supporter of the political processes though the support of a lobby group to provide secret funding to Political Parties, or their Government Ministers.

Anyone that is female, single, or with young children should avoid using the George Street community centre unless in a group (Do Not Go There By Yourself). The few elder residents of George Street community centre only allow persons over the age of 45-50, and prefer only the male gender (unless in homosexual).

ACT Government Canberra Connect provide a telephone verbal advise service to the affect that members of the public should contact the Police and request attendance before visiting or accessing Public Housing on George Steet.
