Expanding this article

Hi all - this page seems to lack citations and content in comparison to other schools at Northwestern. A few of us hope to flesh things out and ad sources in the coming days, including me, User:Hamberty, and User:Isarob705. - Smandlso (talk) 02:16, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

• I'm concerned that the programs of study have been re-added, after they were deleted by an administrator. Wikipedia articles are not intended to be directories or brochures on behalf of their subjects. I'm also dubious that students of the school may have received approval to edit the article as part of an assignment, hence the WP:COI template I'm adding to the article. • Out of curiosity, is there any way to add any similar sort of reference chart/table? It looks like in almost all other pages for schools @ Northwestern, there are programs of study/academic areas listed in their own category, with major/minor/other distinctions noted. I am not sure how a listing of these areas necessarily suggests any sort of "brochure"-esque intent. It's purely reference. Although I do have to ask about your directory comment--I understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, but as an encyclopedia, it is comprised in part by many directories (unless your definition of "directory" differs from the standard definition). As an informational source, it's bound to include these sorts of "directories," whether it's notable residents of a state, breeds of a species, or programs of study at a university. Not to be defensive or anything--I'm just genuinely curious as to how there's a different distinction here. -Hamberty (talk) 16:04, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

Feedback

Overall the page is very thorough and well researched. Everything included has been cited but most of the citations are from Northwestern, so it could be beneficial to include a few more that are from a third party. Another nit-picky thing would be to make the alumni list more uniform, so either include a link to some of their work for everyone or no one. One more idea would be to put more detail into the majors and programs offered, so describe more of what types of classes are in each department and what the students are learning about, and maybe degree requirements. I think expanding that section would give a better picture of the academics within SoC. Those are just ideas but the page looks really good and definitely remains neutral and follows all of the Wikipedia guidelines which is great! In external links, it might be helpful to include links to website's for the performances/clubs within the school. Overall when compared to webpages for other schools in NU, I think you did a great job hitting all the important information - very thorough! The only thing missing is degree requirements, which have changed this quarter, so perhaps you were waiting to get updated information. Hanrose.95 (talk) 19:38, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

The spelling of Qatar is inconsistent/wrong. Also, maybe you could add a degree requirements section? In the sentence, "In 2008, Northwestern opened their Quatar campus, offering programs of study in both the School of Communication, as well as the Medill School of Journalism.", it seems that the end, about Medill, is unnecessary because it is unrelated to the School of Communication. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arimat123 (talk • contribs) 19:39, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

Overall the page has very neutral content, covers lots of areas and is well cited. It gives a good summary in lead section that is easy to understand. In terms of improvements, maybe you could shorten the section on "Facilities" and expand the "Programs of study" section to focus more on the academic programs or opportunities within the School of Communication. For example, maybe you could briefly describe each department and what kinds of programs/majors are offered, introduce some research opportunities for students or add external links to student performances.Melaniele (talk) 21:34, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
