Editorial Note
editEli Whitney was born in Westborough at a time when Northborough was actually a part of Westborough. However, the part of Westborough he was born in is still in Westborough, so he was never from Northborough. AmbExThErMaL 21:02, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
Edit of History page
editI edited the history of the town's site. It was incorporated on January 24, 1766...not June 24, 1766 as previously posted. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tommym27 (talk • contribs) 15:10, 5 April 2007 (UTC).
Spelling
edit"Northborough can sometimes be spelled Northboro, although the version with the "ugh" is more popular."
speaking as a former resident of the town, I strongly disagree with this statement. It seemed to me that the shorter spelling was more popular, and the longer spelling merely more official. (Or, arguably, old-fashioned.) At the least, the article should say there's some disagreement over the name.
- I've edited the sentence to remove the claim about what's "more popular". AJD 15:01, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
- In an encyclopedic article official is important, and there is no more or less or "old-fashioned" to it. It's my understanding that Northborough is the name of the incorporated town being discussed. "Northboro" is a shortcut spelling or may have originated as a phonetic alternative (the same has occurred in neighboring Marlborough), but in any case, repeated use doesn't make it accurate. declair 16:50, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
