Untitled edit

The north east link route through Greensborough and Banyule Flats is based on a GHD report [1]that considered 3 options:

Option 1 - an eastern option connecting the Metropolitan Ring Road and EastLink near Boronia Road, via Kangaroo Ground and Chirnside Park; Option 2 - a central option connecting the Metropolitan Ring Road and EastLink at Ringwood, via Eltham and Warrandyte; and Option 3 - a western option connecting the Metropolitan Ring Road and Eastern Freeway at Bulleen Road, via Watsonia and Bulleen.

Option 2 was the original route for the ring road and the government has already invested in aquiring land and houses on the route as well as creating a land reserve for the route. This option was rejected in 3 lines in the GHD report due ot difficulties connecting to the new eastlink project. This is despite the connection always having been planned for and the GHD report admitting that within the near future the option 2 connection to the ring road would have to go ahead anyway due to population growth east and connection of the industry to the south with the north.

Option 1 is the greensborough route that travels through parkland along the yarra river with a special land use zone for parkland. This route would require disruption to many houses, schools and clubs along greensborough road and the yarra. The government has not commited to a tunnel. The route will also require the widening of the easten freeway east of Bullen road as well as upgrading of the Greensborough road. This is opposed to the option 2 route that has the cleared land and few intersections as well as making use of the land already complusorarily purchased by the governemnt at the northern end of the ring road.

Yarra river crossings exist either side within 5 km of the proposed route and hence the new crossing will not add to the ease of a north south route across the river.

The government and vicroads are therefore destroying valuable inner city park land on the basis of a limited study based on poor concepts and engineering. 165.228.109.94 (talk) 06:10, 2 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposal to remove or move Criticism of Route 3 edit

I'm not even sure if a criticism of any route is needed. If criticism of various route options is needed, it could be in a new section. For example

Tidying up 'criticisms' and 'benefits' sections edit

As per WP:CRIT, 'Criticism' sections and the like should be avoided in articles. I'm proposing to remove both the 'benefits' and 'criticisms' sections and redistribute and rephrase the content into relevant parts of the rest of the article. I'll keep this up for a little while to see if there's any feedback. Takerlamar (talk) 11:11, 10 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
