"set out to climb" edit

"set out to climb Cho Oyu, one of the world's 14 mountains which exceed 8,000 metres."
This looks like "peacock description". What does this mean? If he climbed it, it deserves inclusion. If he didn't, why the detail of what he didn't do, and what exactly did he do? We can all "set out" to do something.
