Update 2.0 edit

Users,

I am a graduate student at Texas State University and have chosen this page to update as my course project. I plan on updating the Social Media section of the page, to provide more detail on benefits, possible obstacles and how to overcome them, as well as strategies depending on purpose of nonprofit organizations using social media. It's a great page and would love to add more helpful information for npo's interested incorporating technology. Jy1080 (talk) 15:32, 16 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Page Status edit

Everything is looking great on the page. Do any contributors in our class still have things they wish to add to this page? I think it's almost there! Maybe we should all skim through the article in the next few days, and make any changes/minor edits as we see fit. Thanks for building out a great page! You're all excellent contributors! Jeffbn (talk) 18:40, 1 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the email, Jorge! I looked at your additions to the page, and they are great. The boxes are quite snazzy! Excellent work!

To all: This page ROCKS....think of how far we've come in just a few short weeks! Jeffbn (talk) 06:08, 4 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

To all: I realized that the only hyphenated use of the term nonprofit on this page is used in the title. Should we a.) edit the use of nonprofit to non-profit within the body of the page or b.) change the title to Nonprofit Technology?KARDuVarney (talk) 16:17, 4 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think we should change the page title...but they may have to do that at Wikipedia....can we do that?Jeffbn (talk) 20:49, 4 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
I suppose you have a point about the title. If there are already other wikipedia pages linked to non-profit technology then I suppose we are left with editing the rest of the document?70.112.89.139 (talk) 21:33, 4 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

New From Simone edit

//Simone emailed me the following...perhaps we can look at this Wednesday evening in class and add it to our page. If not then, we can certainly weave it in to the page in the coming days.//

Non-Profit Technology Uses

Technology uses by non-profit organizations has been instrumental in making non-profits more efficient and effective. Technology has been used to lower operating cost and increasing revenue.

Performance Management: Organizations have used performance management systems that relieve inefficient administrative struggles. These systems have helped operational processes and business efficiencies by showing what method works best. It can be useful in goal-setting and financial positioning.

Business Processes: Business software tools can analyze data and help reveal characteristics about your constituent base (i.e donor habits, gift contributions, volunteer management). When these processes are automated, the time it takes to update donor and volunteer contact information is quick and easy. Automation also ensures consistency and accuracy.

Accounting: Nonprofits use accounting software such as Quickbooks, Sage, Miscrosoft Dynamics and AccFund.

Community engagement:

Web: In 2009, Target Analytics, a division of Blackbaud Inc, found that nonprofits received more than ten percent of their donations from online giving. It also projected that by 2020 web sites will the major supplier for organizations to receive their donations. It is of note that, the study also found that giving is done more online than offline.

Social networking has been an effective tool in establishing community engagement through online forums, polls and peer to peer networking on the organizations website (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube). It provides a way to ask for direct feedback on issues, and reach a community that organizations would typically not be able to and allows organizations to track the effectiveness of their technology usage.

Updates to Non-profit technology page edit

Users:

My colleagues and I are graduate students at Texas State University and have chosen to update a Wikipedia page as a collaborative project. We found ourselves talking more and more about non-profits and their use of technology, so we thought we would contribute some research to this site. Please note, this will be a coordinated effort that will respect the existing site and is intended to enhance the site. Our basic outline would be something like this:

Sections: I. Hook II. Definitions/Terms a. NPO Types of Technology b. NPO Technology Uses III. Best Practices a. Guiding Principles IV. Risks a. Security V. Benefits VI. Resources

Do any of the page moderators of this site have any questions or concerns about our plan? We appreciate the work that has been completed thus far, and we are looking forward to working with all of you. SammiPark (talk) 01:57, 7 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

TEAM: I was doing some research this AM for the nonprofit tech hook and was looking more and more at Information Technology-seems like a worthy sub-topic for our page! There is already a wiki page built out referencing IT. SammiPark (talk) 13:19, 20 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Title edit

I'm not sure "Nonprofit technology" is the best title, but I'm not sure what would be best. "Nonprofit technology" at least implies that the technology is special or exclusive for nonprofit groups. I think the title would be better reversed somehow. Maurreen (talk) 07:14, 21 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

I know what you mean! However, since the relevant professional association is known as the Nonprofit Technology Enterprise Network, I feel obligated to define the way the term nonprofit technology is used in this context. Deborah909 (talk)

Maybe it would be best to integrate this page into the nonprofit article and link directly to the Nonprofit Technology Enterprise Network. In my opinion there is not enough beef for this article. --84.191.220.233 12:34, 13 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think there is enough info to beef up this article, provided that word can get out about it to the many nonprofit techies out there who would be willing to contribute. I'll be posting about it to my blog and to TechSoup. I made several changes today to make it more fact-based, and I hope it will be more obvious to folks how they can contribute info (and attract more citations). User:Jcravens42 (talk) 12:01, 30 March 2009 (CET)

I've posted about the need to update this page to my blog and to TechSoup, as promised, as well as to other online discussion groups relating to nonprofits and technology, and am hoping nonprofit folks will take up the call to add to this page. I've emphasized in these posts the need for more in-line citations. User:Jcravens42 (talk) 17:40, 04 April 2009 (CET)

External links edit

There's more external links than there is article body. Perhaps someone familiar with the subject could trim it down to the most relevant and helpful ones? NickelShoe 04:08, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

This problem is corrected now -- not sure when. I think the external links now do a good job of supporting the text. Even more could be added at this point. User:Jcravens42 (talk) 17:41, 4 April 2009 (CET)

Sources of personal computers for NPOs edit

I've been working on a list of charitable NPOs that provide personal computers and sometimes other technology to the needy and other NPOs. However, only a few (Free Geek, Nonprofit Technology Resources, etc.) so far have Wikipedia articles, and WP:External links forbids "link farms". Also, there are some NPOs listed in Technology for developing areas of which at least one (World Computer Exchange) is working on a Wikipedia article of its own.

My question is: what is the consensus view as to how we should list the NPOs that do not have Wikipedia articles of their own? Simesa (talk) 00:24, 2 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Benefits of technology edit

I added the POV-section tag to the "Benefits of technology" section because there is an overemphasis on Mama. There is no evidence Mama is any more notable than other nonprofit technology programs. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 00:21, 4 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
