Island name edit
English name was Turnabout Island. Old Chinese transliteration (Wade–Giles) is probably Kiushan Tao. New transliteration (Pinyin) is probably Niushan Dao or Niushan Island. Microsoft translate uses Niushan Island. Google translate uses Ushiyama Island for 牛山岛, but the name sounds more like Japanese than Chinese.
Consequently, the article should probably be renamed to Turnabout Island or to Niushan Island.

- This article should probably be "Turnabout Island" because that is the usual name in English and should meet COMMONNAME.
- Kiushan Tao should be a #REDIRECT with {{R from Wade-Giles}} to Niushan Dao. See WP:Naming conventions (Chinese) that favors Pinyin. Glrx (talk) 17:03, 21 April 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's not true though. Google Scholar has more hits for Niushan Island than for Turnabout Island, even including the Alaskan one. Doubtless the pinyin is only going to become more popular and it's not really well known enough to keep its old name like Mt Everest or the Yangtze. — LlywelynII 13:57, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

Closest PRC island to Taiwan main island edit
I believe that Niushan Island is the closest island controlled by the PRC to Taiwan main island. It is about 117 km (73 miles) away from Taiwan (Google Maps), and it's a basepoint of the PRC territorial sea, which means there's nothing to the east of it in the immediate vicinity. The Pescadores are much further away from the mainland than Niushan is to Taiwan. The source I give on this page tells us that it is the closest point, but gives a distance figure that I don't understand. Geographyinitiative (talk) 23:13, 31 March 2020 (UTC)
