My edits edit

I think I have removed the worst of the sourcing and promo. I also removed the names of non-notable relatives and some other inappropriate content. The article is still more promotional than it should be and focuses more on the companies than her role in them. I have only given a cursory look at the 'good' sources and do not recommend moving this out of draft space without a check of those. If I have time later I will do that. Ping me if either I or someone else has not done so by Monday. Jbh Talk 23:13, 22 February 2018 (UTC) Last edited: 23:19, 22 February 2018 (UTC) Reply

WP:PROMO edit

@Mirasr: I would suggest that you remove the subsections on the individual companies and write some narrative text which talks about her overall work. On a quick search I think that there should be enough sources out there to write a legitimate biography. Having these individual sections, especially since there is more text describing the companies than her work with them , serves more to promote those organizations than to enlighten the reader on her life. One or two sentences saying, in general what they do is OK but stuff like: "Open English differentiated itself from other English language programs by providing live, online classes “taught every hour, around the clock,” and offering “proprietary instructional content.”" is right out. Notability edit

I have been looking for more press coverage but I have not been able to find anything substantial. Here is an analysis of some of the sources in the article:

  • In the Field of Digital Marketing, #TimesUp for Women to Claim Their Powerthis is from PRNewsWire and is not acceptable for establishing notability.
  • Virtual English Language School "Open English" Is Worth Millions does not mention her except in passing as Moreno's wife.
  • Miami’s Open English buys Next University does not mention her.
  • Why This $350 Million Online Language School Moved To Miami passing mention as wife.
  • OpenEnglish Raises $65M to Scale Online Learning Can not access this but probably is much like the others
  • The HBS Case Study is not, in my opinion, sufficient to pass the General Notability Guidelines or other notability criteria. I will try to get a copy of the study to see if it changes my mind. or

There really needs to be at least three independent, third party reliable sources that have at least a couple hundred words each written about her before I would think the article has a reasonable chance of surviving an AFD discussion. Jbh Talk 22:02, 11 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

I disagree with some of the claims above.
  • Why This $350 Million Online Language School Moved To Miami describes her as co-founder and "chief product officer" before mentioning that she is married to Moreno. It also quotes her at length. This is quite a bit more than "passing mention as wife."
  • HBS case study says she is "Co-founder and Vice President of Product Development"; quotes her at length without mentioning her husband.
  • Virtual English Language School "Open English" Is Worth Millions mentions her as chief project manager before mentioning that she is his wife.
  • In the Field of Digital Marketing, #TimesUp for Women to Claim Their Power, published online by Westchester News 12, [1] has lots of info about Rankin including "Nicolette Rankin is a three-time Edtech Entrepreneur and a case protagonist at the Harvard Business School. At 24 years old, she co-founded Open English, which grew to over 500,000 students, 5,000 staff members and valued at over $350M in 2013. Harvard Business School's Bharat Anand claimed, 'Nicolette has one of the most compelling voices in education financing' during last year's ASU GSV conference."
  • Several of the other articles mentioned are not used as references in this article. I don't think the assessment above should be treated as diagnostic of how notable or not notable Nicolette Rankin (formerly Moreno) is. HouseOfChange (talk) 03:57, 24 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
